Default Tire wear on the 04

I need to know if the tire wear is fixed on teh 04 models for sure. I've been looking at a new 04 but I drove a used 03 today and the tire noise was terrible. I'm looking at a Z to get away from the problems with the Cobra and this is not a problem I want to deal with. Any help or knowledge on this would be great.
Thanks Mike

By the way before you guys bash me (noticed some replies to other threads)please note that I'm only concerned with finding out if the tire issue is fixed on the newer models. I'm absolutely in love with the car. It is the most comfortable car I have ever drove, or at least it is for me. Small problems I can handle but the tire deal sucks. Trust me I could go on and on about my Cobra.

Thanks Mike

I can't say for certain if they got it fixed for the 2004s, my car only has 2000+ miles on it.

Sorry I aint much help, hope somebody else can chime in.

Thanks guys.

While I have always been a Ford man(almost 15 stangs, 2 Lightnings and countless others), the Cobra or my age has started to catch up with me. So far I have the clunk (driveline noise when shifting), the pop (rearend pop upon turning into a incline), the stall (dies while coming to a stop, although this has only happend 3 times), symptoms of the tick (not sure on that yet) and my CD player jams in the mornings when it is cold. There are other problems, but for 35000 plus you should not have a car that can die at any moment.

From what I can tell most of the problems with the Z are small except the tire wear. It also seems that they have been corrected thoughout the build of the car. Had I not drove the used 03 today I would have bought one without researching the tire wear. The tire noise was terrible. Funny thing is I would have a 04 tomorrow morning but the Dealer want budge on a 500 dollar difference. I basically want 500 more for my car and we will sign the papers, however this will give me a chance to go over this problem.

Thanks Mike

The problem was fixed for 2004, along with all other problems except MAYBE window grease streaks. My 04 has the streak but went aweay after the very first wash and never came back.

The suspension was changed to the euro spec suspension, and according to the tech it was "softend a tick "

And according to the tech we are on version 8 of the gear box.. Hmm..

2700 miles so far built in July 03, no prob so far. My dealer was offering a tires for life option for a extra $500 bucks which i bought at the time cause i didn't know the RE040's sucked so bad. Oh well, if i just get one set that will cover the $500 so i am not sweating it. Plus i don't have to worry about wearing them out.

JST, you're wise to ask about this. My mid year '03 Track has been flawless and a great car except the tire noise has been very annoying and is nearly unacceptable for long trips.

For the other Z'ers has Nissan officially stated that the frontend problem has been corrected? They may not, given that by doing so admits they had(have) a problem. The TSB partially admits it, although it only prolongs the tire life a little. And the feathering returns with the noise.

For you '04 owners have you done the inside edge of the front tire hand wipe to check for feathering? The noise caused by the feathering very gradually increases and you wouldn't necessarily notice it from one day to another.

I would be interested if you find out how I can tell which version of the transmission I have.

Thanks,
