Doesn't this string belong in the maintenance forum?

OP: Tell the owner it's time to take the car to a dealership to have all the fluids changed. They're old, some are hygroscopic, so they could cause premature part failures (yes, I'm talking brake fluid). The car needs some love. Then after she's paid for everything, offer to buy it.
Sounds like a very good plan to me!

Checked the date code on tires and they are several years old. Need to replace them. Too bad they look brand new.

Just buy some new tires and wheels and put those stock bad boys on craigslist. Someone will pick them up for their altima and be excited about the new tires.

Looking good! Just ran across the thread and thought I'd ask if you were able to determine if this is a RevUp VQ35DE motor or not. I've got an '06 that is and they have been known to have some oil consumption problems. Just something to keep an eye out for, not all engines suffered from it, but enough to where there are posts on here about it.

Thanks for the tip. This is a not a RevUp motor. Tach only goes to 6500 and the window sticker states 287 HP. Plus it's an auto and from what I have read none of the autos received a RevUp motor. Car now has 3,176 miles on it. LOL

After driving it for several days now I can see why everyone likes this Z. It's just darn fun to drive. Plus even the stock exhaust note is nice. I might sell my '73 240z and keep this one. Well maybe!

Default Carfax report - Surprised

Yes, my neighbor actually kept up with the service. I was pleasantly surprised after viewing the Carfax report because she didn't mention anything about routine service. For your enjoyment only because of the low mileage. Quick question, if I buy the car is there still any benefit of changing the fluids as suggested earlier (except for peace of mind)? Especially after seeing the service report.

I found out that the tires were replace by the dealer because of an alignment recall. I had been curious why she didn't have the original tires. However they are still 7 years old which meant they were 2 years old when installed as revealed by the date code on them. I would definitely replace them.

As of today the car has 3,256 miles. I put on the last couple of hundred.
It's still not mine yet. I don't want to keep perpetrating as a Z car owner. LOL

I would just drive it and enjoy it and keep my eyes open for a nice set of anniversary wheels and invest in tires for them.

I lost out on a 3600 and a 6300 original mile roadsters when looking for mine. Agree with the comments on full fluid change and new tires. Congrats on the find!

Thanks! Just checked them out and they look good for a stock wheel. I got a lot of info from wheels & tires section. Talk about some aggressive mounts. I definitely want to go a little wider on the tires with 18" wheels.

I did a little research on the 60,000 mile service but I am not certain what fluids may have been changed. Stopping by the dealership next week to ask. Just curious but I will still change fluids. New tires for certain.

Oh, and she still had the plastic wrap on the brake pedal.

Tomorrow, restore faded headlights!

If the headlights are an issue, you can always 'cover' them? I've had these for years and you can only tell there's a film on them if you get up close. http://www.headlightarmor.com/

Thanks for the info. I used Meguiar's 2 step headlight restore kit and it did a decent job. At Sir Wax A Lot getting buffed out.

Don't hate on the auto! It's a whole lot of fun without any effort.
The car is in mint condition except I will have to freshen up the exterior a little with some minor cosmetic body work.

Mileage is up to 3,336! LOL

I'm 5 months into owning my 35th anniversary edition. It had 4200 miles when I bought it. Oil change, new battery, and new hatch struts is all that was done. And yes, it is an automatic and I love it!

She's letting me keep the keys and drive the car to work (only 8 miles round trip) but I really want to buy it.

My question is what should I do to the car maintenance wise because it hasn't been driven much. I was told not to flush the brake fluid. Not broke don't fix it! Oil was changed ahh... maybe twice a year. Funny this years old change sticker says change at 6000 miles. I'm thinking of maybe just a lube job, air filter, radiator hoses and possibly new belt.

Thanks again for your help.

By the way I'm the proud owner of a 1970 240Z. Owned the car since 1982.
i dont even understand this question..........you bought a car you start driving it.......until a problem actually arises....then you find a way to fix it.....

a japanese car with 3000 miles........dont worry about anything............

I just change the hatch struts last week. I had the car appraised and will make an offer after getting an estimate on the cosmetic body work so it will look like your car, i.e. new looking.

I'm already looking at new wheels and tires. Some many options, so little money. LOL

You are so right!
Actually, I don't own the car yet. It's my neighbor's car and she has decided to sell it and has been letting me drive it. It now has (drum roll) 3,400 miles on it.
