This will also cause an airbag light to come on that only the dealer can reset.
Disabling the airbag system without consent from the NHTSA is against the law and if you were to get in an accident in which a passenger was injured you could be criminially liable.
I wouldn't do it. $400 isn't too much money to do it right.

Rather than get one installed and sign waivers basically letting the dealership off the hook for any screw ups, I decided that I would use my 4 point harness to keep my son in place.
I added a second set of eye bolts on the passenger side and simply slide my shoulder belts along the harness bar. When my 5 yo is fully harnessed in (I use the OEM belt on top as well) he can't budge. With the seat fully back and him not able to move (to the side either) I'm not worries about the front or side airbags hitting him.

FWIW, you never have to sign a waiver releasing the dealer (or installer) of any responsibility for faulty workmanship, etc. The only thing you have to sign is a statement that says if someone gets injured in your car, you can't go after the installer because they disabled the airbag. It's a shame in todays society that this kind of CYA is required, but what do you do?
