Default Why does life throw so many curve ***** at you?

Here's my story. What would you choose.

Option 1) 350Z Enth Model, out the door for 30,618

Option 2) 1993 Toyota Supra 5 Speed Manual, Rear Spoiler, TRD 320km/h Speedometer, APEXI Engine diagnostics digital display,Remote Operated engine start up and switch off, immobiliser + alarm, Power Steering, Power Windows, Electronic Seat Adjustment, Climate Control, Air conditioning, Cd + Cassete + Stacker, 16" Alloys, 82,000kms, Excellent condition.
Import from Aust. $12,000+1,000 in shipping, and maybe 1,000 in other fee's. None Turbo.

What would you go for?

non-turbos a waste of time in the supra

and its not like you can just slap a turbo on it. if I remember correctly the non-turbo and turbo used entirely different motors

but with the extra $$$ you could just transplant a real supra motor and then get power by adding a blah blah blah, with a blah blah setup like blah blah blah.

Supra sare very nice, but they have been done. The nice thing about the Z is the new and fresh feel you get from it

NA supras were somewhat shuned on the Supra boards because they are so slow. If you would be satisfied with a used car imported from halfway around the world (good luck getting any restitution if its trashed) that is half the car the Z, the go for it. What you will have is a car that is less than half the price with no warrentee and won't hold a candle to the 350. It will have technology and design that is a decade old, and with rare exception will not get a second glance from anyone.

OR you could pay the extra and get a car that competes with cars twice its price, has cutting edge technology and design and attracts attention from car nuts and normal folks alike.

Not much of a choice after all is it.

Even if it was a turbo I'd still get the Z.

Well, THIS is a complete no-brainer...the Supr- KIDDING!! KIDDING!!

In all seriousness though, reliability issues alone would have me running for the Z!

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky,

First you only have $1000 for the Z and were looking for an 8year financing because you thought you could afford the <$450 monthly payments. Just about everyone advised you not to do it.

Now you're looking at importing a $12000 vehicle that would cost around $1000 to ship.

SO WHERE WILL YOU GET THE MONEY??? I doubt any financial institution will finance that vehicle. For those of you that don't know, Ricky just turned 17. He used to brag about being the youngest Z owner on this board; even started a thread about it.

Now suppose you somehow get the cash and get that vehicle into the country, have you thought about customs? They used to require you post as much as the vehicle value while they hold it and make sure you get it federalized. They won't release it to you until it meets all federal safety and emission requirements. That means more money up front. You have to pay customs duties as well.

Didn't you start another thread about importing another vehicle?

McDan,

You sold a mkiv Supra TT for a 350Z? Unless the Supra was one of the ragged, BPU abused, high mileage examples that are flooding the used car market, I'd say that was a mistake. Big mistake.

I'll be posting my 1997 Supra TT comparison to the 350Z Track as soon as my Z finally arrives..

Dean

Default Curve *****

Ricky, you should stick with your Celica and stop having pipe dreams about "more power". Save your money and get a Z in a couple of years. Don't get a used, maybe abused, designed in the late '80s Supra that will begin to cost you money immediately, excluding purchase price from Australia!? 10 years old? Give us a break, Ricky, talk to your parents about your dreams and stop making this forum your surrogate family.

Dean, beautiful Supra, but its still 6 years old and the Z is brand new. As much as I like the Supra, I wouldn't buy it.

Ricky, Ricky...I'm beginning to suspect that your threads are BS. You have a few threads that are attention grabbers. You need to get some attention at home. Good luck!

Ok, I'm going to assume that you don't know this... but according to your sig, you have an '02 IS300. It has the same engine as the NA Supra so why bother? The 2JZGE is also in the GS300.

I'd lean towards the 350Z (no surprise there).

Unless you like a car payment ALL THE TIME. Plus, if you enjoy modding your car, then all that money you spent modding is gone. And on newer cars it is harder to get good aftermarket support. I would buy the Supra TT in a heartbeat.....not that NA one though and especailly not from Austraila. There are plenty in America that are more accessible.
I worked for State Gov't for 23 yrs and my salary was in the top 10% for State employees, entry level for Silicon Valley. You don't get rich working for a State agency, especially if you have to travel a lot and you use your own car. I average keeping a car for 7 years. I figured out once it cost me between $15-2000 per year to drive my own car.

I drove my 91 MR2Turbo for 7 yrs and 128,000 miles. My used 1972 Datsun 240 Z had 143,000 miles on it when I sold it. During my work yrs, I took early retirement, I drove the wheels off my cars instead of State cars because I maintained my cars better then the manufacturer's rec's and I didn't want to get caught on some lonely highway in rural Okla at midnight with a broken down car. I never did.

My wife, also early retired, has a 99 Maxima SE w/28,000 miles on it and I have a brand new Nissan 350Z Touring w/Frost leather w/ 128 miles on it so far. Not made of money, I was a planner and I could never justify to my wife, who is very knowlegeable(and a former University Program Director)about cars to buy a nice, but discontinued $50,000 used car. I thought long and hard about a used MR2, but every one I saw was too modded for me and it would still be a nice, discontinued used car.

I bought the Z through the preorder process and got exactly what I wanted, not somebody else's idea of what a car should be. I think its better looking than all the cars I considered: M3, E46, Boxster, used MR2Ts, Supras and I fit into it. I am 6'5" 295lbs and it isn't easy for me to drive most cars.

Made out of money, no, but we sold our tech stocks 6 months before the bottom fell out. Gosh, its good to be retired and have a brand new 350Z to take road trips in.

Boomer Babble--rants for free, don't assume anything about people you don't know. It isn't polite.
