Update (2/23/16)
Did some bounce tests on the suspension and it seems to be fine! No binding whatsoever and a ton of travel with the softer spring rates of the G35 sedan. Up to this point I was running revised OE 350z springs and shocks.
2006 350z (revised):
314 Front / 427 Rear
2003 G35 Sedan (non-sport):
283 Front / 308 Rear
Should handle great in the dirt and gravel- We'll have to wait until April to see!
Update (2/23/16)
Removed the sideskirts to maximize ground clearance. I think it's funny when they rip off, but I'm trying to strip things down to just the essentials! Sealed up the huge gap at the bottom of the doors with some foam rubber to keep the dust and rocks out.
Also picked up some 7" HELLA 700FF lights from a good friend for HELLA cheap! I don't like LED bars and I feel that the round lights fit the vintage look of the car. Going to mount them on brackets attached to the crash beam and do a 55 watt HID conversion so they're HELLA bright! Puns for days.
This is so refreshing! I can't begin to explain my excitement!
African Sarafi 350Z!!!!
YES!!! This man knows what's up!! The 240z that won overall victory at the East African Safari Rally in 1971 also wore the #11. Huge inspiration for my build!
I still have a few Safari 260z oil caps sitting around. I've owned more datsuns than I care to admit.. All s30's.
Ahh jealous! That's awesome. I plan on picking up a 240 to fix up when I have a garage to park her in. Driveway mechanic right now haha. That oil cap is sweeeet!
Safari Rally Z for anybody who doesn't know what's up:
This thing DOMINATED. If you don't know, now ya know.
Update (3/1/16)
Picked up some 12"x18" WRC grade urethane mudflaps from Susquehanna Motorsports, the go to shop in the rally community. Hardware provided by Home Depot Speed Shop. Brackets and reinforcements are riveted, going to trim and install the flaps this weekend!
Also found some sweet East African Safari Rally stickers on EBAY.uk
I want more videos! It was funny to see the comments from the stance boys on Facebook about "why would you do this to a Z?" this is functional and fun! slamming it to the ground destroys the purpose of the car IMO.
