New owner with problems
Hello my name is Mike and I live in the Savannah, GA area. Just bought my first Z, I've always wanted one and love driving it.
I'm currently working through all the little bugs to get this baby back to 100% and working through a few issues.
I went to replace the broken shift **** to find they damaged the threads beyond repair because they didn't know what thread size it was.
I don't care to buy a short shifter since I like the way the stock one is setup and the dealer wants $165 for a new one....
Does anyone have the stock shifter arm laying around after swapping to an aftermarket one. I'll be happy to throw a few dollars into it

Mike, don't worry about the negative replies. You will find on this website that there is this fetish about not asking a question before searching the entire internet. Just ignore it because there are plenty of other folks who will be happy to help you out if they can. There are just a few flamers who can't get past it. Overall the site is friendly and helpful.
My advice would be to find out what the thread size is and go to Harbor Freight or somewhere similar and buy a cheap Chinese tap and die set. Use the proper die to chase the damaged threads.

Very handy for other stuff as well. Very easy to do if threads aren't totally gone.

thanks for the tip, i was looking for a WTB subforum so i didn't see it as a sticky imbedded in the subforum.. I will definately use that in the future, i checked and the same rule does not apply. (not sure how much feedback i'll get there since it's a thread instead of a subforum)
I spent a lot of time checking, the googs, ebay, rockauto......etc. and have a hard time finding the OEM part, was thinking about calling the dealer because i'm sure they have something but i figured with all the people who are installing a short shifter that there are bound to be some sitting in a garage somewhere so i can just replace the bushing on it(or whatever sleeve they use).

Regarding buying a die and rethreading it. It is so far damaged that i wouldn't trust it to hold anything. I might take a picture of it so you can see. It looks like they used a die(very poorly) to tap the coarse thread pitch 10x1.5 over top the 10x1.25 that is actually is and ripped it all up. then they jammed a stainless steel adapter down it, cross-threading it at the same time due to the mis- matched threads.....It's hideous...

yeah that's the issue, nissan parts store has it for the same price as a short shifter but i don't care to go to a short shifter either... (not sure the wife would like it)
guess it's not a big seller for part sites since most owners would probably hop on the short shifter buy.

I would find someone parting out a car, maybe junkyard, or just buy new. Not many will be available, not many Z drivers get short shifters. They suck and normally switch back to OEM after a few.
If you can't find an OEM shifter assembly from someone on the forums, I would recommend checking out saccityautoparts.com. These guys do nothing but dismantle Zs and Gs. I've purchased some hard to find parts from them before at great prices. Always best to call and negotiate over the phone, none of the prices are fixed with these guys and I doubt they get calls often about used shifter assemblies! They can ship the item to you, no problem.

Thanks for the input. I'm still learning what the aftermarket sites are for these cars. I've only dealt with aftermarket Rx7 parts until now. 
I do have one person that has PM'd me but if it doesn't working out then new it will be. I appreciate the help, i've already been reading lately that many do not like the short shifter offerings for this car.
