Default Soon to be owner

Hello everyone this is my first time being on here. I will hopefully be purchasing my first 350z this saturday. Done a little bit of research one some smaller upgrades. It will be a daily driver so I don't want to do too much. But was just wondering on opinions on starting with, Crawford headers and cats, Borla cat back, and going to the 4.083 gears, if that would be a nice little start. Thanks

headers - waste of time (especially considering install time/cost)
cats - make sure HFC's
Borla - Not bad
4.083 gears - not needed unless drifting, raises cruising rpms etc

I wouldn't go with borla unless you find a good deal on a used one... Its not bad, but for $1100 theirs better options.

Honestly the oem exhaust sounds better...

I just want to thank the regular cast of characters for offering real advice instead of "search, newb"! Heh heh.

But I do sorta disagree with Trav on the gearing. 4.08 = 15% lower gearing which equates to about a .8 second increase to the power band.

People, don't forget about torque multiplication with lower gearing. Acceleration is increased by a fair amount with 4.10s (or thereabouts). Yes, more applicable to HR engine but works with DE as well.

BUT..... the increased wear and higher fuel consumption from steady state cruising may well trump your use of the accelerative gain so one has to weigh which is more important and more used.

^ Depends on the model. On a DE highest would be 3.9 since the redline is lower unless the OP raises it. The HR would be better matched to the 4.08.

Exactly the reason I said it was probably more applicable to the HR.

Personally speaking, 3.9, according to my gear charts, is best for both because while the HR has a higher max rev limit, peak horsepower and torque fall off well before max revs and the extra revs, while fun, are relatively unusable from an on-road perspective.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will be looking into the oem exhaust instead of borla and the 3.9's

Should check out the Motordyne Shockwave TDX2. If my car hadn't come with a Stillen exhaust it's what I would have gotten. Along with the ART pipes.

Probably best area to post in would be your Regional area, Southeast. There's a LOT of Z people down in FL so you should be get a pretty decent response. Go ahead and post an introduction and ask the question in same post.

You might also look into the various Z clubs down that way and join one close to you. Those folks will have the 4-1-1 on who's good and who's not so good.
