Default Wierd starting issue.

So i recently bought an 03 6-speed 350z. The previous owner basically never drove it and it sat in a garage, so i thought "great" a nice car i can enjoy as a replacement for my crappy old honda. But since i got it home it hasnt started.

When i turn the key all the gauges go off except the service/oil/battery lights. All i can hear is a click from somewhere under the dash. I was only able to start the car via bump starting when i got it inspected a few days later.

I asked the previous owner about it and he said it has always been fine for him except the clutch switch was a bit junky sometimes. So i ended up getting a new battery and new clutch switch but it still does the same thing. I cleaned up the battery terminals and the connection on the ground wire too. I check through fuses inside and in the bay but none of them seem to be blown.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

The clicking in the dash I assume is the relay that should send signal to the starter. See if you can get at it and check if its actually send 12v out when actuated, if it is working I would look into the starter. The car also needs a signal from the fob I believe to start as well.

When you installed the clutch switch did you check the little plastic stoppers. One of those could be broken not allowing the switch to work.

I tried pushing the switch in all the way by hand and tried shofting the switch connectors. Still nothing. Ill have to give the relays another check.

From the fuses inside the car i didnt see any blown. The car had a bad aftermarket alarm that i pulled out, thinking that was the issue, but nothing has changed. Ill give the relays and fuses another look.

i wonder if it had a starter bypass, most do, and for some reason it is killing the input to the starter still ....

Would that cause the dash and gauges to cut out as well?

Where are you in Mass? I would get a friend and a multimeter and see if your getting power down to the starter when you turn the key, if you have power your starter probably needs replacing. If not then its probably a alarm issue... Hook that back up, start tracing wires or bring it to a shop.
