Gas Gauge not reading correctly?
good afternoon, my son just put some gas in his 2004 350z. at least $20. it shows Empty. i told him to wait a while, power off car on leveled street and power back on. maybe it might catch up? any ideas? could this car have vapor lock? im only saying this because of a problem it has off and on where the car turns off on its own at a intersection?
thanks in advanced

Honestly if the engine dies while you are driving that is a huge safety risk. Your problem could be the result of many things. I'd urge you to take it to a local mechanic who knows Nissan products.
rpm steady at idle before car kills itself? or does it sputter till it dies? my gas gauge does something very similar.... fill the car up and when you shut it off overnight and turn it back on it shows its empty....but 10-15 minutes after driving around it will rise to the correct location. Its my beater so I could care less but as JHC stated if its killing itself I would take it in. Spend the 50$ on diagnostic from the dealership vs. throwing 10 random parts or wasting countless hours of your time trying to chase down your problem.
If it showed empty (fuel light on and DTE gauge shows just four flat lines) then $20 isn't enough to put the empty light out or give you any DTE miles. If on the other hand your gauge isn't reading empty when you put your $20 in it then it really needs to be looked at as that is dangerous if it keeps cutting out when you're driving.
It's a common problem in the 350z's. A little bit of google search will tell you how to fix it.

This only addresses the gas gauge problem.

dunno.
Yup, link works. That only solves the gauge indicator problem, and thanks. Unfortunately, the car shuts off as well.
