Default What type of headlights do I have?

I'm looking to order these headlights for my 2004 350z coupe. They are asking if I have Xenon HID or Halogen model headlights. Can someone tell me? I have the factory lights that came with vehicle. Thx

Dam I literally just bought these lights and knew the answer.

IIRC you just check if you have a ballast ok the bottom of your unit. "Little medal box" you have HID. If not halogen.

There is another big tell but that's the one I forgot. Love these lights BTW.

I'm almost sure too most 2004's have halogens and of it's a base model. Mines a 2005.

Easy tells:

- What model is your Z? ALL but Base model have HID. (Base has H7 HALOGEN)

- When you turn your headlights on at cold start (no lights on for at least an hour), do they turn on full bright or do they start low and build intensity? If the latter, they are HID. (Full bright when clicked on are halogen)

- As stated, HID headlights have the ballast mounted on the bottom thusly:

If your car has no buttons on the steering wheel, it's a Base, and has the non-HID headlights.

Do yourself a favor, if you want to drive at night, and buy these lights instead:

^^^ What dcains said. Might not "look as cool" drivin' around during the day but they do the job when they're NEEDED.

Yup. Yea that's why I opted for these my self was how clean the design and LED light bar looked.

Yes the lights pictured use your current day running light wire to power the new LED running light bar.

Exactly why I went for these instead. My lights are just to pass DMV inspection and fill the holes. I don't drive at night with this car. Mostly just for canyon runs and track days.

Honestly hate the look of OEM/OEM style.. doesn't hurt these were $100 cheaper.

And since OP asked...

This is your day time run light LED strip. The lights in your first post have these.

Hi beams are yellow halogen (lower light that's on in pic), my main is HID (roughly 5k white) I have HID's of course. Lights come with bulbs already installed. LED/holo or halo/halo depending on lights you have and lights you order.

Wow.....

Yea OP go with those^^^

Only reason I went these posted was because everyone wanted $1k for a set of used OEM's at the time... For $200 That's way more reasonable.

Based on the info that the vin # spit out. I have a 2dr touring Coupe 2004.

Only buttons on my steering wheel are for cruise control.

Im mainly interested in the daytime running lights feature of the lights in my original post.

Thx to all who responded.

There are other ways to have DRLs and still have headlights that will let you drive at night and see something:

Why do people insist on having DRL??? Did depo and sti lens swap, no regrets! Amazingly bright at night without looking like a jerk. Lights up the whole street without blinding people.

Oem or depo+sti lens swap is the only way to go. And looks much cleaner than the spec D and all other aftermarket lights. Works better too.

The parking lights on my model do not face forward like the ones in these pics. People like DRLs what can I say. Are these any good?

Yeah, you're correct about the '03-'05 front reflectors facing more to the sides. I made the ones in the pics myself, maybe 4 or 5 years ago, and they're still working fine. Spent <$20 on the LEDs and the clear reflectors were ~$50 or so. There are some companies which sell both styles pre-made with LEDs, and here's one example:

He also does some nice headlight mods (using the Depo lights), you may want to look at:
