Default Car stalls for a few seconds then comes back on....help

im new to the forum. I bought a 2004 base model with 6 speed manual and a couple of mods about 2 weeks ago. Everything has been fine. I put on new belts and a new radiator fan assembly last weekend and everything seems to be going good but this week it has stalled (brake light, battery light, check engine light popped on) when I was stopped or just taking off at a red light. The car only shut down for seconds and kicked back on and the dash lights went off. This has happened 3 times and I have put quite a few miles on the car. Just concerned. Any help would be appreciated

Welcome.. What mods did you install, or are you referring to new belts and the fan assembly as being the ''mods'' ? When it stalled, did your 'SLIP' light and your 'TCS OFF'' light come on too? Now I know you didn't say that, but I'm just double-checking. If you say 'yes', it will narrow down the issue to 1, 2, or 3 of 3 things...

Because you played with the belts. I'm going to assume your belts are not tight or slipped and you lost power to your alternator to power the car.

But it turned back on because it caught again to feed power. That or you have an electrical issue some where.

I didn’t do the mods but there is a Z1 Motorsports cold air intake on it. Yeah none of this was happening before I put the new belts on and I was hoping the drive belt just need to be tightened some more. I appreciate the help guys

The alternator feeds power to the battery and the battery feeds power to the car. If the alternator is about to fail, it won't supply enough amperage to the battery and the car will shut off.. What does the battery amperage gauge say on the dash when the car is running, OP?

OK. Hook it up to a OBD II scanner and have the codes read. If you don't have a scanner take it to Auto Zone or somewhere like that to have them read for free.

It's probably your alternator and the CEL is coming on because of 'low voltage'.

The battery is reading normal on the gauge inside the car.

Once you pull the codes, let us know. We can walk through those with you. Anything else is simple conjecture.

CEL is not on just when it stalls it comes on with the battery, oil and brake light. The car comes back on and the lights go off like nothing happened. The battery is brand new and it has an aftermarket cold air intake. Autozone tested a bad battery but passed on a ODB port test because the CEL isn’t on. They wouldn’t test the alternator because it wasn’t in an easy to get to spot.

Rather than complain about the vendors in your area, you might want to purchase your own OBD II code reader. Learn to use your sophisticated on-board diagnostic system. Many codes are held in memory, even if a CEL doesn't come on.
