Passport 8500 Installed
No pics but I went ahead and installed it much the same as everyone else. I mounted it under the mirror where it can "see" out the back window. I ran the cord up through the cable holder on the mirror (super easy) then across the top of the headliner down the A-pillar to the fuse box. I was going to go directly to the map lights but because they are still not fixed and I did not want to use a relay to auto cut-off when I turn the vehicle off. I have checked for cable rattle but found none. The only place I am worried about rattling are the parts that involve the headliner.
I chose the 8500 instead of the V1 because I found out that the 8500 has a "bogey counter" as well (with strength indicators) and was not as impressed with the directional arrows as I had thought I would be. For a 100 bux cheaper and almost the same performance in the K and Ka bands I got the 8500.
I miss the speech functionality my Bel had but the escort has so much more detector functionality.

Good choice Vandy. I have had my 8500 for almost 2 years, and it has been great, and saved me plenty of times.
Just be warned that when the laser warning goes off, it is loud and obnoxious, as it should be. The first time it went off, I had no idea what it was, but I found myself hard on the brake just because. Luckily it must have picked up an errant bounce off of another car ahead of me, because I cruised by the patrol car at the speed limit about a 1/2 mile later.
I'm keeping the one in my Durango, and plan on buying a second one for the Z off of eBay.

Well, I went out and bought one today as well. Had the shop go ahead and do the hardwire because they could do it immediately and it was only $35 bucks. I spend more than that in gas each week and it only took the guy 15 minutes. Plus, he knew exactly what he was doing unlike myself.
It has already saved me from two bogeys here in town. I've not yet encountered Laser and was wondering what it comes up as on the display. Ka? The manual led me to believe that it would say "Laser" on the display because it differentiates between X/K/Ka and laser in signal explanations. Is that the case? I've left it in full auto mode while I learn how it reacts to different sources before I go messing around with programming it.

I love mine. It has been pouring here so no chance to speed and test it out in "real world" conditions.
Yes it says laser when you get hit (or hopefully the car in front of you gets hit and deflects some signal your way because it only takes one strike and you out with laser). On my Bel I only got a laser hit maybe 2-3 times in 2 years. There is just not many out there and it usually takes a pair of cars to get you (one for the officer who is usually outside his car aiming the laser gun and a chase car down the road or on the on ramp of an interstate).
Read the feature about the ExpertMeter. It will let you track several bogey's at the same time across all the bands (Very Cool!).
