Had a chance to pick up another chassis … If you dont think I’m crazy already than prepare yourself.
a little 16year rewind … I believe I bought my first z on November 17, 2005 (mid-Novemember 2005 for sure) - pikes peak white touring with about 14k miles on it. Second owner.
I think I’ve owned 5 z/g/q chassis since 2005 and a buddy was looking to get out of his 2003 pikes peak white touring model and I had to pick it up. I did sell my 03 black track model that I picked up last April (needed some engine work) and threw some cash together for this one.
Chassis has 170k’ish miles and my buddy just bought a 40k mile engine and installed it. The kicker is that it is having throttle body issues. I’m actually excited to get in to it and it’s likely a bad ground or the 5v sensor voltage is being interferred with. Eitherway - picked it up pretty inexpensively and gonna love every minute of it.
I know I say this, but I think I’ll keep this one and keep it just about as stock’ish as I can…sorta beauty & the beast with my turbo build.
Has a bunch of small goodies on it but nothing crazy. More to come!

The husky passed away Summer of 2017 likely due to cancer at age 10.
Went dog-less until Feb 2020 and adopted Lola from Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. She is adorable but has some anxiety as her original probably didnt give her enough attention.
'pup' was more referring to a un-modified (lightly modified) chassis!
It was rough ... she (the husky) had a TPLO (ACL knee surgery) in 2014 on her left leg and then her right leg went out in 2016, and right after she recovered a tumor on her front right leg came out of no-where and spread pretty quick. The calming solace of it was she had a pretty good life, had excellent vet care, got many walks, many trips to the dog park, road trips, and brought joy to many many people.
Sorry to hear about your loss. We had to say goodbye to our 17 year old friend last year. You can always take pleasure in knowing that you gave her a better life than she would have had with someone else. Lola looks like a sweet girl.
On another note, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your new project! I have been looking for a dual axle trailer for a while, but I fear it may lead to me towing home more projects...

Lost our 4th springer spaniel due to cancer a few months ago. Big loss. But- a new group expected in the Spring.

Got the car off the trailer and did some clean-up in the interior … the previous owner had stuff everywhere as he was trying to resolve the TP issues and APP issues.
The car started up quick and idles pretty nice all things considered. Zero response from the throttle whatsoever but I was able to ride the clutch a little to manuever the car in the driveway after unloading it off the trailer.
Got into the FSM and reseached the codes and the diagnostics - these are all voltage low codes so I am wondering if these sensors lost their ground connections or if they are not getting voltage from the IPDM? Regardless - I’ll follow the FSM on diagnosing these.
Got the car into the garage this evening and couldnt help but to jump in and look at this TP issue…Checked pins & voltage and TP sensor number two is not taking voltage … I’m gonna giggle if the previous owner simply needed a new TB.
I didnt check TP sensor pins back to the ECU but that will be next. I have a few extra DE throttle bodies (as I’m working on a direct 90mm LS style swap) and I can put a known good TB on the car tomorrow and see how she does.
The car needs a fair amount of TLC but it’ll be a fun project.
Made some progress last night - tested the APP and one circuit was messed up and outside the OEM parameters. A second APP sensor was with the car and I swapped it in and after a little adjustment it came in clean. I also did a check on the TB to ECU connections and it was good. Did the pedal dance, surprisingly, got it on the first try. Cleared the codes and everything cleared up except the P2135. I ran out of time but will be checking the APP to ECU connections tonight.
When I got the car the gas pedal was completely disconnect and no pedal would increasethe engine RPMs. After tonight, I was able to get up to 2500rpms to 3500rpms - not sure if the car is still in limp mode but I feel like I’m making progress.
And Santa is supposed to drop something off for me today/tomorrow…
More progress on the other white z … The issues on the car are with the throttle body and the accelerator pedal position sensor that kick it in limp mode 24/7.
I finally got it figured out - super stoked! Two major issues that fixed it…first, the previous owner swapped ECUs (not 100% sure why? I think they were throwing parts at the problem) and the ECU came from a 2005 model year which was incompatible with this 2003 model which I believe was triggering the TB issues.
The APP sensor wasnt grounding right. It had continuity to the ECU, it had 5.12volts supply in, but for some reason the APP sensor output was 5.06volts to 5.12volts … took a little scratching and I decided to ground sensors to the chassis and sure enough the sensor voltage varied like it was supposed to. FSM shows sensors grounding to the ECU? Not 100% sure why this worked. Cleared the codes and they did not come back! I did a quick start-up and a few throttle blips and aside from a rough idle it acted normal.
One set of mitigation efforts remaining is to get the traction control and ABS back to normal. ABS & Brake light were illuminated and the Slip and VTC lights are on as well. Previous owner clipped one of the big fuses in the engine bay fuse block and luckily I had some spare replacements from a chassis I parted out and this turned off the ABS & Brake light and now only the VTC and SLIP lights are on.
Parted out a Z1 Ypipe and a junk single exit exhaust and installed a greddy true dual and it’s nice but fitment sucks and it needs modified. Rather than modify the exhaust I am going to cut to size and add flex sections to the test pipes. Order the parts needed and was able to get the test pipes off the car this evening.
