Default Stock intake tube crack

Hey all, hoping I can get some input, I’m finally going to be getting to work on my 2007 mt Z I was looking it over after it’s been parked for a bit and realized the driver side stock intake tube is cracked right where it connects to the manifold.

I don’t really want to put on an after market intakes however the tube it’s self is hard to find for a reasonable price.

can I use just an after market tube with the stock air box or am I better off just looking for the stock tube?

thanks!

Yes, there should be some aftermarket tube options. I have the VQ35DE and I picked up the Mishimoto Silicone tube. It's plug and play with the OEM airbox and TB. Small upgrade, but at least it won't crack like the OEM plastic. The Mishimoto kits are well constructed and should last a very long time. The tube is reinforced with metal rings so it won't collapse under have loads.

There's a version available for the VQ35HR. The price is reasonable for what you get.
Cheers!

thanks for the recommendation.

No worries! The main benefit to the Mishimoto design is the smooth pipe construction. There are no surface interruptions (flexible accordion piping) which can cause turbulence. Also, the materials used should help control/prevent engine bay heat soak from making it to your fresh air. Again, these two things are minor, but you you should see a tiny benefit to your hp/tq, no losses.

I also prefer sticking close to the OEM design. I'm still using my plastic OEM airbox on my 06. Years ago, I had a JWT pop charger, but those cone filters don't catch all the dirt as well as I would like. Even if you clean and re-oil them regularly (every 3-4k mi oil change for example), very fine dust/dirt can still make it through. The stock filter design works the best when it comes to filtration + performance, it's very well balanced and makes maintenance/replacement a snap. Totally anecdotal evidence, but I recently had my Z tuned with the all the same bolt-ons, minus the the JWT pop charger and I only saw a 3hp drop at the top end (This was before I installed the Mishimoto intake tube).
Cheers!
