For years I ran a JWT popcharger on my 1st 350Z without any MAF issues. I regularly cleaned and oiled the air filter (basically every oil change interval). But even with keeping it cleaned and oiled, I noticed fine dust particulates collecting on the velocity stack mount for the conical filter. Not saying JWT doesn't make fine products, they do. But as I've gained more knowledge, experience, and wisdom, I won't go back to a oiled filter.

"...but how can so many people be so wrong about them ? It's so strange"

Aftermarket intake kits have been extremely popular for decades. They're very easy to install and they make cool noises. But I think most people simply don't want to admit that maybe, just maybe, they were sold a false promise (suckered) when they do more research on them. There's also the placebo effect. Some cars truly benefit from aftermarket kits, but those are the exception and most modern vehicles don't. To truly maximize any bolt-on gain when it comes to intake and exhaust, a tune is a must.

Cheers!

@Kf2024
DAMN! If you can still save it I'll post this here.

https://conceptzperformance.com/inje...z33_p_2873.php

Much cheaper if you can cancel, always check the known Z vendors first!

Anyway, K&N make power cause they flow more, more flow = less filtration, there is no free lunch

This really sucks. Wow what a massive price difference.

I sent them an email and i hope they can cancel. This sucks. I assumed Z1 motorsports is a known Z vendor

Lol. People are dumb. Best is subjective. Everyone on the Internet seems to think they are more knowledgeable than Nissan R&D. The OEM design is meant to maximize performance while minimizing noise - catering to the masses and not the "moar loud means moar power" crowd.

Only listen to us moving forward. As I mentioned before, we're the only true geniuses

This also reminds me of when I used to work at a country club in high school. We use to adjust the throttle cable on the golf carts and open the air box housing to make them loud because racecar. It was all fun and games until we rolled them.

UPDATE :

So changed order to JWT pop charger then ended up canceling entirely.

Man so many differing opinions. Some say JWT, others say dry filter so solething like Injen, and almost everyone now says dont use K&N at all.

Btw watched a vid last night where they tested drop in filters and K&N let in far more particles than the other filters , so you guys are right, so now even that simple option is gone.

What a pain in the ***. I just want that sweet growl i got with ny KN intake on my old DE. The HE stock box sounds like a polite whimper

You've got to make concessions somewhere. Or, as Dark said, "no free lunch."

As I mentioned before, Nissan maximized the efficiency and anticipated that most prospective new buyers would not want it to be loud. If you want it to be loud, you've got to modify things. Modifications often lead to more things down the road...

Why didn't you go with the Injen short ram from CZP? That seems to fit the bill. Dry filter and no air box resulting in that "growl." ???

I'm leaning towards that. Just someone else said they prefer the JWT. The thing is when you look at older DE models, there was a clear consensus that the JWT Pop charger was the undisputed king of intakes, but that changed with the 06+ air boxes and now apparently none of the aftermarket intakes are better or even equal to the stock airboxes in term of performance and longevity.

I might pull the trigger on the injen from CZP

With the cost of intakes being crazy high on this platform (imo), I would go for a larger diameter intake set. At least you would have real gains in performance, but you would need a tune as well.

The pop charger was king cause it was like $100 lol. It's bang per buck, but oiled filter. Glad you saw the video, I was going to post it for you.
To be completely honest intakes are a weird subject, to this day my favorite is the Stillen, it's better than pop charger and there used to be a viable dry replacement filter.
My only quarrel with the bigger ones he mentioned is the come with oiled filters, no free lunch remember?
You can go full custom too, I just highly recommend dry filters.

so bigger you mean JWT right ? But like you said there is no free lunch. Bigger filter that uses oil to keep out particles are from what I heard will allow more air but also more particles.

I miss the simpler old days of my 2004 DE. It was so cut and dry.

but at least I acted fast enough to cancel my order with Z1. So now I really need to decide between the Injen or JWT or just stick with the pathetic sounding stock airbox and just play it safe.

He means bigger as in bigger diameter tubing, he has a 4" intake on his DE, here's the thing, simple is subjective. It never has been simple...it's just that DEs don't gain much so it's all noise, so why complicate it?
Well, that's not stopping me because Mathew and I are out to change the mindset on DE intakes. I'm at about 7-8 intakes and will be testing several off-menu intakes later this year, why? Cause I'm tired of hearing 06 box is best, not even Nismo agrees with that statement, why should we.

@Kf2024 Here, this is IMO the best the dry intakes other than custom. If you are interested please contact them before ordering. R2C made good filters (military stuff) but I've heard a lot of not so good things about them (company) since I last did business with them.
This is the only place I've seen that has them and says "in stock" but to my knowledge they are not being made any more.

Any open filter will make extra noise, however, if you want maximum effects you need to remove the baffles and stuff the HR comes with from factory.

That actually sounds pretty good ! Ok I sent them an email first like you said. Was this a popular intake back in the day ? Never heard of it before so I'm wondering why

Thanks again for all your help

They were only on market for a small period, their stuff was a bit more niche, but their filter were really good.

Let me asked you this, is the car stock? If it is stock, are you going to keep modifying it and eventually tune, or are you just looking to add a bit of noise to the experience?
