Hi,

Does anybody know what is this little black box on a black wire in the driver's space of my second-hand 2003 Canadian Nissan 350Z?
Can it be a gps tracker that is connected for the navigation, or for private tracking?

Probably not GPS or tracking since it is placed so low. Optimally, GPS receivers should be on the dash or somewhere higher up and unobstructed.

It could be a microphone. Seems like a not-so-great place for that, though.

The only way to be sure would be to pull the panels off and trace the ominous black wire to its source.

 

I say its a microphone. As mentioned about just follow the wire. Only way you can really confirm what its for.

 

Looks like a sensor for an IR remote.

 

I believe deadeye is correct, that looks like an IR remote sensor/receiver. Seems like a really weird place to put it and also I don't know anyone that actually uses the IR remotes that come with headunits in their vehicles, especially something compact like a 350Z.
