Are you saying that none of the lights in the tail lights illuminate at all? No brake lights, running lights, etc?

A poor ground connection (loose, corroded, or broken ground wire) will prevent the lights from turning on even if power is supplied. Especially on 20-year-old cars like a 350Z

There's a main body ground mounted to the rear of the trunk behind the back panel that covers up the trunk latch. (Assuming LHD vehicle) The ground connection is on the passenger side behind this panel. If the vehicle has been messed with in the past, a lot of people tap into the reverse wire to power backup cameras. This harness runs across the trunk floor pan on the driver's side and might warrant a look if a wiring fault is suspected.
Cheers!
