Default Changing EEPROM chip odometer reading on new cluster

Hello,

I have a canadian 2005 350z roadster that I'm importing to the US, and I am swapping the instrument cluster to a used US one with MPH in the outer ring of the speedometer.

In the process, I want to clone my old odometer reading on to the new cluster. I guess I'd need to convert Kms to miles on the EEPROM memory chip somehow, I want to try doing it myself if it's not a difficult process.

Has anyone successfully done this before? If so, what sort of tools would I need? Any instructions would be appreciated! Thanks.

This requires specialized tools since tampering with odometer readings can be illegal. I went through the process since I replaced the cluster on my base model 350Z to get the cruise control status LEDs to function (added factory cruise control to a base model). I took the replacement cluster to a specialist for programming matching odometer numbers. I also had to sign an affidavit and provide proof of mileage and VIN on the car. I used a local automotive gauge/instrument specialist and it was not cheap, but there are businesses you can find online that will do it much cheaper than what I paid. The only downside is dealing with the added shipping costs + wait time, I was in a hurry so I was willing to pay extra for the expediency.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the reply, it makes sense that they won't just let anyone change the odometer. I also don't like the idea of having to wait, so I'm going to try to search around for a reasonably priced shop that's able to do it. Appreciate it!
