ROAD TRIP! Considering picking up the 350Z from Wisconsin to California
Its all about the cheese!!! I'm thinking about flying to cheesehead land "Wisconsin". Why?
Well thanks for GroupZ's prez Charlie helped me find my Daytona Base 350Z at a great price that will be there Oct 5th.. So I have 2 options
1) Have the car transported by an automotive shipping company from Wisconsin to Northern California (Thanks to Pointfivezero.. Tim for giving me pointers on shipping..)
2) Or fly out and have a hellov a roadtrip from Wisconsin to Cali and the car will be broken in by the time I'm back. If I do go I would love to meet with any Z owners along the way!!
Both option 1 and option 2 will cost about the same. But option 2 is the more risky one. Why? Because I face certain things..
A)Weather- I have only really experience California weather. I'm spoiled and anything below 30 degree is cold. But I heard there is snow in Wisconsin in early October, and salted roads are a no no.
B)Roads are unfamiliar, and there are all kinds of things on the roads such as road debree and other things that can damage the Z.
C)Or if something happens to happen to the Z along the way I could be screwed..
A Roadtrip would be really fun but if anyone can give me their opinion or advice. Shipping it back is the safe way.. But how often do I have cross country trips?!!?
I would defenitely bring a full bra, mirror bras. Get the triple AAA towing deal, navigation system, and a radar detector.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?!?!!?

I drove a rental car to Evansville, IN from Dallas, TX to get my Chrome Silver Track -- about 750 miles each way.
I brought a nosemask, small phillips head screwdriver, 5 quarts of Mobil-1, 1 gallon of distilled water, window cleaner, and paper towels. Everything worked fine for me.
When I picked up my 94 TT from Melbourne, FL, I had the same stuff and drove 1300 miles.
I don't trust vehicle carriers.

Every road trip thing I've seen has recommended DUCT TAPE. I guess its the universal thing to bring for anything huh?
Michael thanks for the advice I appreciate it! Did you get lots of crap on your hood. I'm working with a bra manufacture and hopefully I'll have a leather grain complete one for the front bumper hood and mirrors.
By the way how much you selling your 300ZXTT
You might want to hold onto that, if its stock now, a few simple mods and you'll car will beat the 350z

Also, don't forget a good navigator. Perrsonally, my g/f was merely adequate.
And don't forget the CD's. Good tunes are hard to come by when passing through podunk towns.

If you're seriously interested in buying, then PM me.

Long way to go...but well worth it!
Just be sure to print out the directions, and maybe run a weather report prior. The bra is a must...just hope it doesn't rub up the paint. Good to you start your traveling kit include duct tape hahahaha.

Yuichi,
Don't you have to be old enough to have
a license first
. Make sure you read
the owners manual on break in procedure
before you leave. If you need to change
oil while on the trip make arrangements
with one of you new 350Z buddies for a
quick stop at your place. Also make the
dealer give you the oil and filter for
your first oil change. Most have no
problem with that.
Good Luck !!!

Yuichi,
What part of Wisconsin will you be picking up the car from? Unless you are way north, there is a very slim chance of snow in early October.
If you make it though Chicago, you can meet up with our Z group here.

Where are you picking it up? I'd say your chances of snow here in early October are extremely slim to none. I live in suburban Milwaukee and it's sunny, above 70, and I'm wearing shorts. I think the road trip would be fun but I would be more worried about getting through the mountains. I know that it already snowed in Breckenridge, CO. I don't know the route that you would take but that would be my worry.
The other road risks are almost always present on any long or short drive. The odds of it happening are just greater with more miles.
I'd be happy to hook up for a bit if your in the area.

According to Mapquest(Can I trust mapquest
? It looks like a straight shot from Wisconsin to Northern California.
Looks like I'll be traveling down I-235 S and I-80 W mainly. Most of the time will be on I-80 so anyone familiar with this highway and have any advice or tips?
Also any cool places to stay or something to see off the highway? Hopefully there aren't too many cops
p.s. I would love to meet with any Zed fans along the way!! Let me know if your close by.
