Default The hardest 37K I will ever have to spend

Well here's the story. My wife's grandfather recently passed away and between my wife's mother, her 3 uncles and her brother we were left 37 thousand dollars. My wife wants to buy a new 04 all wheel drive Passat and she, believe it or not is insisting on me using the rest to buy what ever I want for the Z. I always talk a lot about I want this and I want that but I never actually buy anything for myself. I feel a little funny about spending money on my car being where it came from, but Pop I know would be happy. He always loved cars, even when he was retired he still worked at the Napa in West Orange NJ just because he loved to help other with their cars. So this is the only real comfort that I have in spending this money on the car, I know he would be smiling at all the cool stuff I could buy with it.

So I figure I will have about 11 thousand left to spend and I am looking for suggestions. I have an 03 CS 6spd coupe with an Injen CAI and ADR M SPORT RIMS, Tint all the way around, and a customized interior. So lets here the suggestions, Thanks. And god bless you Pop, we all miss you.

Greddy Twin Turbo, or a Full Veilside Version 3 bodykit with their overfender kit. Cant go wrong with some really nice wheels to. Check some Volks, Advans, or go with the 5Zigen Hyper 5ZR in Chrome, the set will cost you about 5 Grand

Like Bini said, sorry for your loss, but you definitely want to go forced induction. I spent over 2500 for 10hp with the bolt-ons. You could get a twin turbo setup and a kick *** stereo for 11g's. Or you could get a fully prepped 240Z for track days.

Greddy TT and tons of dynos to perfect the AF Ratio and dont forget all the cool gauges you get to add. Sorry for your loss, just remember to be safe and not stupid if you get all this gobs of power. Dont want to have family members deciding who gets the insurance from your TTZ!

Id go Turbo also. You have the money to do it the right way too. I mean, the full job, internals, oil pan, injectors... make it bulletproof. Good luck and sorry about the loss.

Sorry for your loss.

Honestly I'd bank the rest. It's hard to save $ these days
maybe drop a little on mods. you can get a ton of NA mods for under 3K and you'll be plenty happy with them. For now at least

Sounds like your dad loved cars, and would be happy for you to spend on your car! $11,000 will get you a lot of stuff, especially if you can do labor yourself

I say get Greddy TT, get it tuned, Greddy Evo2 Exhaust, and do some sort of bodykit stuff with the rest...basically put the rest into exterior looks.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but from what you've shared about your "Pop", he'd be yelling , "Get the Greddy twin turbo!!"--- just like everyone else. You can think of him everytime the two turbos spool up, because you know that he'd love to be riding shotgun with you...

Thanks for everyones kind words, this Z community is more like a family than just a forum. I was quite sure that the TT would be the top choice. I will keep you all posted on what I decide to do.

If this was just a winning lotto ticket for 11K it would be a no brainer, but this is a little different. I am having a tough time with this as he was like my own grandfather and not my wives but no doubt about it, Pop would have been a tuner in his day, so I will do something outrageous for him, I am thinking of changing my PA plates from NISMO-Z to maybe POPS-Z in respect for him, or maybe how about, POPS-TT! I know he would dig that, he was cool as hell thats for sure. Thanks againg guys, I really appreciate all your condolences.

Thats understandable silver&black, kinda hard spending money that came at the expense of a loved one. It really sucks, but deep down you know the old guy would have loved for you to be tooling around in a Z with a TT

You say you have wheels already.. Sooo..

Greddy TT and some type of suspension set up! Lower that thing and make it handle better with all that power you would have!

Invest it in something that actually makes more money! Don't blow it on a car, unless you are financially secure. Meaning your passive income covers your expenses.
Sounds hokey, but you'll thank me some day.

Agreed with zunzet. Invest that 11k into some type of passive income generator. You will reap the rewards for the rest of your life.

Agree with Zunzet and Wren, put it into something besides the car. Thinking about ever having kids? It would be a nice start for college tuition. But who knows maybe you have already planned all that out. If your financially secure then blow it on the car. A TT would just get me in trouble, i am having a hard enough time resisting flooring the Z when i drive it now!

My condolences for you and your wife's loss.

I learned something important today. I went out for some "spirited driving" in the country today. Anyhow, I came to a stopsign, and saw a nice deep curve on the left. The road was wide open, so I gunned it from the stop sign. I got up to about 85 really quick and took a hard left turn around a bend. It came up on me REAL fast, so I knew I had to feather the breaks only very slightly and just go for the turn. Otherwise, I felt I could have gone right off the road. I had no choice but to feather the breaks a little (otherwise I would have gone off the road indefinitely) and I felt my *** end sway outward. The reason I just couldn't have slammed on the breaks is because the turn came up on me So fast that I was already partially into it...MOST NOTEABLY, the road conditions where I live are not optimal. We had a tough winter, so the roads don't provide the best of traction (given the butloads of dirt and sand). Bare in mind I had VDC off. So any type of rapid deceleration could have easily caused me to break traction.
Although I handled the situation pretty well, instantly I realized that I should really learn how to handle my car at the limits in its current form (on a track). Jsn350z mentioned upgrading suspension if you upgrade your power. That's highly recommended. That's almost a no-brainer IMO. If you only plan on drag racing your 350z at stoplights, then don't worry about what I'm saying. However, If you do plan on tracking your car, or going for frequent countryside drives in the twisties, you should probably learn how to max out your car before you go turbo. With all that power, all it takes one underestimated downshift and you could break traction and end up off the road and compacted into a tree. Be careful.

[WOW! no offense but I was not looking for investment advice! Yes I do have kids, and I do have a very comfortable savings. I am only looking for advice as to what to buy for the car. The car was payed for in cash, and my children will always be very well taken care of. This 11K is for the car and nothing else. I had a 99 911 turbo and was paying $700 a month for it, and I said F this. I will never buy anything again, except purhaps a house that I can't pay cash for, that is how one keeps themselves out of debt. I was at one time in my life 200K+ in debt and after 5 years of busting my *** off with my HVAC buisness I have gotten myself debt free. So as I said, this is for the car.

I like the TT idea but i may lean more towards a body kit, exhaust, intake, pulleys, ecu, maybe even some custom paint, I think Canary Yellow on a Veilside Version 3 kit would be badass. I may even play with the idea of a SC which I could install myself. But hey no offense guys I do appreciate the investment advice. Thanks!
