Default To Navigate, or not to Navigate?

Hey guys, test drove a Z couple days ago, WOW, never driven one before. Anyways, i've decided on the touring model, but now the real question. Money is an issue (not a huge one though), is it worth upgrading to get the navigation. I believe if you do somthing, you do it right - and navigation seems like a good idea, Is it worth the extra 2k? I probably wouldn't be able to spend that 2k in mods - first thing that came to my mind. Thanks in advance for the input.

I personally opted not to do it....If you go lots of places that would otherwise require you to print out directions, do it. For me, because I rarely do this, it would have been a waste of money even though it's a cool toy....You're probably more likely to want to watch a DVD on a screen in that space, in which case, you can get something installed way cheaper than 2K aftermarket.

No navigation before the Touring.

I love my nav. The time it's probably saved me in guiding me through unfamiliar places or by giving me a detour around traffic has more than payed for itself.

I'd say it depends on what you use your car for. If you just drive to work/school and back, you probably don't need it. If you visit various offices, clients, or take road trips often -- it really rocks.

Figure would you pay $40/mo for 4 years if it was just a service like XM radio or a phone line? If so, do it. Don't forget it'll probably help with resale value as well.

The nav really adds alot to the interior of the Z. I cant imagine my Z without the navigation in it.

do not get the nav.

spend the nav money on the Z-PC

it is an in car computer that comes available with Navigation (you get it!) DVD, MPEG player, Interenet Access and a few other goodies for roughly the same price! ($2k)

i love mine and use it EVERY time i get in the car!

I have the Nav system and use it all of the time. I'm retired and go to new places all of the time. I wouldn't buy a car without a Nav system. I have a third party Nav, DVD, CD, radio, XM in my other car but it cost $5,000. There are systems coming out that cost much less but the Nissan one looks the best. Only thing I don't understand is Nissan left out some neat toys on the Nav which were on a G35 I used to have?

I don't think this is the one all_bark was referring to, but http://www.dashwerks.com/ is another option.

I love the Navi it is an awesome addition to the car. I had it on my 02 maxima and ever since I can not imagine having navi in the car. Besides the actual directions part of it, you can find phone numbers and detours, just to name a few. I say go for it you will not regret it.

definitely get the nav...just not the nissan one.

We have it on our FX and its pisspoor compared to the alpine nve820.

The only ish I have re: car pcs...is I just want the simplicity and elegance of a nav - nothing to fiddle with, no blue screens of death...

either way, nav is priceless.

I drove from NYC to SD with my wife our dog and the alpine nav.

Default If you'll use it...

If you think you'll make good use of it (ie >2/wk) get it. Otherwise it is a waste, b/c you lose some of the only accessible storage in the car. Personally it's faster for me to call and ask for directions than to use the nav for small trips. If nav was $500 I'd recommend it...but at $2k there are a lot of things you can get that might be more useful. If you travel a lot though, nav is prob unbeatable...but the Z is not much of a long distance traveler's car anyway.
