I'm not taking sides here, but you kinda brought this on yourself. I don't think I've ever read a thread that started with "I'm 37 and about to get a Z..."
But I don't agree that you shouldn't learn to drive on a Z. I'm not saying it shouldn't be your first car. I'm just saying make sure you know how to drive before you get behind the wheel of one. If you already know how to drive, great, ignore me. If you don't, get some practice (use a family member's car or something), then get the Z.
Oh, and yeah, 3 months is the normal wait (which I think I mentioned earlier), so no surprise there. And a down payment is standard practice. There's no set amount, that's really up to you (they may ask for more if they feel it's too low though). It's so that you don't flake out on the deal. And don't forget, once your car arrives you can take it for a test drive before making full payment..
