Default Tire replacement "heads up"

Ive seen this posted many times. Just wanted to post this issue again to bring it back to light...

I had my front tires replaced by nissan due to tire feathering.

Like most dealerships, they didnt have the equipment to replace tires on 18 inch rims. So they sent them up the road to have the new tires put on.

What i had read before from this board was that folks' rims were getting scratched pretty bad from the new tires getting put on.

So the first thing i check is my rims and SURE enough they scratched the **** out of them.. The head service manager looked at the rims. Said he would have a company come out, sand and paint the rims for me.

Best they could do.. Ill see how they come out. I wont settle if it looks like crap.

So, just wanted to get the word out...

Do i even have that right? I can only imagine what tangled arguments will happen.

Then i cant take it there for service if a mess occurs... Then i have to take it to other dealerships to have service. I really dont like any of my choices of dealerships in the area...

Its kinda like voting for the president. You dont really like the choices, but ya gotta pick one anyway..

That......is complete bullsheat. I would NOT settle for anything less then new rims. It's the dealers responsibility and they screwed it up. I would start by talking with the management of the dealership. Let them know how dissatisfied you are and who the hell cares about future service - they're making money off you regardless. And...they aren't the only ones that know how to service a Z! There is no excuse whatsoever for such negligence - these people are supposed to be trained professionals. What a freaking crock - It's amazing how people just don't give a sheat these days. Don't let them walk on you

Don't take the painting of the wheels. Make them replace the wheels with new ones. Remember they scratched the wheels and if you paint them you will not be able put wheel cleaner on them any more. You will be takeing a chance of the paint coming off.

I agree that it is ********!!

first, it wasnt the dealership the scratched them.. it was whoever they sent it to to do it, since the dealership doesnt have the equipment to change 18 inch rims..

2nd the dealership is convienient for service cause its close to my work.. if this turns into a big hassle, then my other choices are woodbridge nissan and manassas nissan, both of which i have heard they have crap service as well.

Is the hassle REALLY worth it?? right now, im not sure..

Oh hell ya you should try. It doesn't matter if the rims cost $6k a piece. Fact is, they screwed up....doesn't matter if it was AT the dealer - they sent it out to a "supposed" qualified technician. Talk to the dealer management immediately. Ask them what they would do if it was thier car that they worked overtime for 4 years to buy. What would they do? Would they want their rims painted that probably won't match the rest and will probably chip and look like hell in a year? I doubt it. Also ask them why then, did they ship your car out to someone that wasn't qualified to do the job properly. They must take responsibility...and painted rims aint it. Again, don't get stepped on like too many other people.

If they repair them, then get a lifetime warranty on the repairs. If the paint comes off or the wheels don't look as they should somewhere down the line, then they should be responsible for re-doing them as necessary.

BTW, my dealer replaced all four of mine after the same mishap.

I'm driving an Altima as we speak cause they're "repairing" the wheel for the the exact same reason. I told them specifically NOT TO SCRATCH THE WHEEL when doing the tire swap. If the wheel doesn't look right when I get it back, then I'll be taking it right back to em. They are taking it to a wheel place, so wish me luck.

The dealership gouged my rims on friday. I had the sales manager come out to verify the damage. (After hours pickup) He went and got he GM who came out and told me that they had a co. that repaired wheels. He asked for the opportunity to repair the wheels and that if I did not like the repair he would replace them. Dropped it off today for Wheel Masters to repair. I was given a KIA SPECTRA to drive. Grossssss!!!!!!! I will update tomorrow after I pick up my car.
My car is 7 mths old and I am very uncomfortable with the thought of repaired rims. What happens next time I have new tires put on? There is no way to reproduce the baked on finish from the factory. My dealer was too cheap to send my car to PTW where they sell the $2200 rims and mount them daily without gouging.

I feel your pain literally.

You know what's amazing, it's just how many of us have had our wheels curbed by the dealer. Can you imagine the volume of complaints NNA would have if every time a delaer messed up someones rims it got reported. I wonder what other dealers do, like Infinity dealers, who have to work on the FX45 with 20 inch rims.

Default Do NOT CALL the dealership.....

Go there is person. It's too easy for someone to just say "No" when they're on the phone. Go there in person to point out the damage. Regardless of where the work was done, it's the dealership's responsibility on the quality or lack of since they sent the rims out. Period!

The head service manager is the one that looked at my rims before i left. I made sure he looked at before i drove off. He said he would have a reputable company that he has worked with before to do the work.

I said ok and drove off. This was on saturday, he said he would call me monday (today) to set up an appointment. And of course they didnt call me today.

Now if i go up there, ill just feel like an *** saying i change my mind and want new rims. Im pretty much to their mercy.

Any ideas on the best tactical way to suggest i want new rims.
I mean really. If i show up there with big ballz and start pounding my fist demanding new rims, i dont think that will get me anywhere....

Im not a *****, i just dont want to get into a shoulting match and all kinds of drama to ensue...

1. You brought them rims that were not damaged.

2. They are the experts.

3. They gave you back damaged rims.

4. They should replace damaged rims with undamaged rims like you took to them.

Why should your car be in worse condition after getting it worked on? Doesn't make sense, does it?

It's not like they're out the full price of the rims. First, they don't cost the dealer that much. Second, they are not throwing the old rims away - they will be able to sell them for a good part of the cost to someone who wants them bad enough (has run over a curb, for example).

Good luck.
WayneTN

(p.s. - Dealer replaced mine when I told him painting was not going to be good enough. Once I said that, they immediately said they would replace them. They were just seeing if I would buy the paint-job approach.)
