Default 3M Horror

Well, it started out innocent enough. My local Nissan dealer indicated that they install the 3M invisible bra on many of the cars they sell and offered to do mine at the $495.00 West Coast installed price I quoted them. Brought the car in Sat AM and they indicated that the tech was going to do it over the weekend. No problem, so far. Well, Monday rolls around and midday, still no call. Spoke to them and they said they were having a LITTLE trouble with the "Mirrors". Well, to make a long story short, got a call today and was told to come pick uo my car. AFTER I got there they told me that they destroyed the hood piecs, too many wrinkles that they could not work out. So, here I am again wi only the fronts of my mirrors and the front pieces of the fenders done. Needless to say, it didn't cost me anything except that I have to start the search for an EXPERIENCED installer all over again.

Sorry for the long tale, but just to let you guys who had a "good" experience with your bra installation, I'm happy for you and sad for me.

Thats unfortunate, how did they do on thebumper piece? Honestly the hood and mirrors arent nearly as difficult on the 350Z as the bumper. Its curious that they would have trouble with the hood and not the bumper.

They never even got that far. I've got a guy from the Xpel list in Erie, PA who is giving me an installed price tomorrow. He indicated that he has installed the "5 Star" difficulty kits and feels sure he can manage this one. He is also driving into Cleveland to install the kit. (Hope it's not 50 cents a mile for travel). At this point I don't care if this cost upwards of $900.00, I just want my Z's front end protected.

Thanks for the concern.

Default I kinda feel your pain too...

I had mine done a week ago, and am still having problems. I think the guy is an experienced installer, but I am having problems with the mirrors too. Also, the front cover won't stay down around the reflectors, and he made cuts to try and get it to fit.

Kinda disappointed, but am glad it's covered.

Jeremy, Rob, what can I do to get this fixed?

Mike

IT's actually not that hard to install the clear bra. I did it, but since I did the hood first, it was the hardest part. If I do it over again, it's not so bad.

If the material is precut with all the right dimensions, then it should be ok.

But to be safe, leave it to the professionals..

I just had mine done last Thursday. It was a custom job-no kit. Everything turned out WONDERFUL except for one spot on the bumber. He told me to leave it in the sun and if the wrinkles don't stretch out, he will cut another piece for it. I took the car on a road trip and I am thrilled with the 3M stuff. The entire front of the car was plastered with bugs. Cleaned off very easily.

I had the bumper, partial hood, front fenders, larger piece in front of rear wheel, behind rear wheel and under back bumper, partial mirror, inside door frame and a piece installed by the door handle (I've got nails and always scratch the part) done for...$200!

Yes, it is a Xpel kit I ordered from Krinkov, I'll take some pics and email them to you.

Thanks again,

Mike,
Thats troubling to hear, its also why I stopped offering uninstalled kits. In any case, we here ofer a lifetime warrenty on our installs, but usually if there is going to be a problem with the film or the install, it usually arises very shortly after the install. I always follow up a few days later for this reason. All reputable installers should warrenty their work wether or not they supplied the kit, just as a mechanic still warrentys their installations even if you bring in the part.

I saw my installer doing a Jaguar hood -- that looked really complicated. I figured if he can do that, he can do a simple hood like the 350Z. If the guy can do "5 Star" kits thats good news.

Bilz Z, did you by any chance see if any places around Columbus install X-Pel? I'm looking to have that done as well.

There is an Xpel installer in Lancaster. I spoke to his wife and she indicared that he had just retired from a job and this was a new, or fairly new, startup business for him. Did not get a real good feeling as to their ability to do the job. They never got back to me about availability or pricing. I'm waiting, as we speak, for a quote from an installer in Erie, PA. He's willing to come to Cleveland and indicates that he's installed 5 star difficulty kits. I'll let you know what he says.

With all these problems, how about the old fashioned black bra. I know it is bad for the paint if left on, but I figure I could take it off every night. Anybody ordered one of these yet?
