Default tire feathering

Went to my dealer today for the second time with the symptoms of tire feathering. The first time they rotated (back in Nov) and aligned the wheels, since the symptoms returned I wanted to know what the next step to end this problem would be. The dealer told me they had not received any new information about this problem and my best bet would be to call Nissan. Since the car just turned 7,000 miles the tires are not worn as yet, but I want to head off a problem to come. Any advice. Thanks

My dealer told me the same thing. So much for fixing the problem on all 04's. Mine was built 07/03 so I guess they didnt realize it yet. I took mine in at 8300 miles and they said "If this doesnt work, you will have to call NNA to get them involved. Maybe they will give you new front tires." Hopefully the alignment works.

They should replace your tires no questions.

Man, I hope so. The toe-in didnt correct the feathering as I now can see it on the "good side."

Are we to expect the same brand of tire and if so how does this solve the problem if whatever the problem was the first tires were worn?

The president of the Z club of texas had it done and he said it took care of the problem. After they replaced the tires. Once he made sure the feathering was solved he ordered the Nismo wheels and he has been happy ever since.

Thanks all, on a similar subject, is it true that Nismo wheels will void your warranty because they are non vdc. I thought I read this somewhere. If this is true how are other wheels affected by other manufactuers?

I'm dropping my car off next week for the second time to fix the problem. I will insist on new tires.
We'll see how that goes...
They better, since they destroyed my rims the last time. All they did was rotate the 2 front tires, balance and re-align.

Keep your fingers crossed.

this issue was supposedly fixed with the release of the 2004.5 release where they replaced the suspension. I just got mine last week so I was lucky enough to have a 4.5 not sure though if the rumors are true if it's fixed or not, only time will tell. I didn't get the right manual either so I have to wait for the dealership to get a 2004.5 one in, or I have to go the Nissan's site and spend $200+ for it.

I mentioned the feathering issue to the Service Manger at the dealership where I purchased the car and got this form letter reply:
"In regards to the tire feathering issue, 1st you will have to have the vehicle inspected buy a Nissan technician to verify that the feathering is causing road noise. The tire feathering TSB issue is based on it making a growling type noise while stopping. If that is found by the technician then Nissan will address
it. "

I was hoping to avoid wearing out the tires prematurely by rotating them before they were worn badly but it seems they have to 'roar' before they will do anything about it.

tdukeman,

From what a Nissan Rep told me, all 2004's have the new suspension. I also read that same thing from someone on this site who said he spoke with a 350Z expert rep named Bianca who said the same thing. Either way, I'm still waiting to see how my tires wear. I'm hoping for the best.
