I know that most 04's are pretty new at this point, but is there a confirmed build date where we "know" feathering will not occur?

Thanks!

My guess is we won't know the answer to that question until later this year when the 2004.5 (euro-tuned) 350Zs have enough miles. What we do know is that both the 2003's & early 2004's have experienced feathering of the front tires.

Matt is the Service Manager. Really nice guy, but he has to be diplomatic when it comes to these things.

The thing that bothers be alot is that I don't get a courtesy car.

So I guess that's my question...what are the starting build dates of the the "euro-tuned" z's?

Thanks!

Thanks!

wow....this is exactly what I am talking about.... I mean was that really necessary? Who are you really mad at, I sure hope it is not me because I just posted ONE positive experience that I had with getting my tires fixed. And YES I DID get it in writing that they will give me new tires EVEN after 12,000 miles. I really don't see how they are trying to SCREW me??!? Honestly if how you guys talk on here is any example of how you act normally I can see why Nissan won't fix/buy your tires.

devildogg - No where in my title does it indicate that there is a fix for the tire feathering (not including the TSB). I am sorry if it really takes you that long to read my post that it wasted to much of your day.

droideka - STFU? Wow such strong languange, are you really mad at me or are you mad at your own dumb$ss for paying for $3K in new tires?

Z_Coaster - not to be negative.....ha!

I mean guys come on, I know you are upset about the tire feathering but that is no reason to take your agressions out on me. I am sorry if my Nissan experience was somehow different than yours, but that is an issue that you should take up with your dealer not with me. I just thought people browsing the forums might want to hear about one person's good experience. But apparently you want to drag me down into your depths of negativity as you wallow in your own frustrations with Nissan. Sell your cars, it will make your psyche improve.....maybe you can find a nice SUV.

I really dont post here that often anymore...but I sold my Z a couple months ago because of the headache the tire Feathering had caused me. I work fulltime...so its a huge inconvenience for me to have leave work to take my car in and out of shop all the time.

When the tires started feathering it just got SO LOUD that I got headaches from driving the car. Anytime I'd go around 20 mph my car was just unbearably loud.

If they actually solve this problem I would consider getting another one...but until then I'll be lurking on these boards waiting for the day someone posts about "The Sacred Tire Feathering Fix TSB" .

The problem is the misrepresentation that this thread's title makes. The body of your post summarizes your experence with the feathering issue. The title refers to the feathering issue itself. Two very different things. Misleading and is a waste of time. At time of this response, 896 people have wasted a few minutes of their lives reading a misleading post.

I had an alignment done at about 11,500mi, and am now at 23k. No signs of feathering at all. I can't remember which specs they aligned to, but I know that all of the dealers have the revised specs.

Probably won't be the catch-all for everyone, but there have been a lot of people talking about proper alignment being key to keeping these cars (and tires) in good shape.

The $125 or so they charge for an alignment is much better in my eyes than $800+ for new tires. I can get over 4 alignments for the cost of a new set of tires.

Just my $.02. Like I said, it isn't the solution for everyone.

I have a little over 17000 miles on my car. I do not have the feathering or noise problem from tires. Plenty of tread left on original tires. See no reason why I cannot make 30k+ on this set. I have had no alignment done so far. So I am wondering how widespread the problem really is. I know there have been plenty of posts about the problem. But it definitely not be the problem of every Z. What percentage of cars do you think have this problem. I am thinking it is less than half yet when you read the boards you would think every Z has this problem.

I gotta ask:
My tires are real loud at 30 to 40 mph, but ...
when I look at them, I don't see any feathering. The edge seems OK to my eyes.
Am I just not expert enough to realize I do have feathering?

Are you looking at the outside edge tread? The feathering is on the inside edge of the tire. Park your car and turn the wheel the entire way to one side and then get out and look at the inside edge tread. My tires had this alternating pattern of light and dark patches and you could see the trailing edges of the tread blocks worn off. If you can't see it you should definitely be able to feel it. I took a picture of my tires showing this pattern if you'd like me to post it.

znuts, you would win that bet. don't ever try to burn rubber. accidently got a little rubber shifting from first to second. surprised me. No tsb's for me either. Had minor window streaking and that is it. Not enough to have dealer take door apart for. Nothing to go to dealer about. Have just done oil changes and my modifications. Hope everything does not happen after warranty is gone. So far lucky also. I am sure there are more lucky ones out there.

i looked again at the tread - and the whole tire looks sh**ty in my opinion, but i'm pretty sure the feathering is there.
Oh well, another item for my trip to the dealer in a few weeks (window streak, rattling stereo speaker/driver door, brake noise).
Still love my car, though.

I thought I'd post a pic of what my tires looked like after approx 16k miles (tires were swapped at 6k miles). The picture doesn't really give you a good idea of the difference in tread depth, but the darker colored areas were a good deal lower than the other parts of the tire. My local dealership was going to replace these tires under warranty without any fighting (Brenner Nissan in Harrisburg, PA in case anyone is interested), but as far as I know these tires are still on "back order" since last Thanksgiving.
