Go to Edmunds.com. 25,000 Plus tax? Yes almost to dollar it is possible.

25K including tax? Try a 2003 used one.

It's a stretch to go new. And if you're blowing all your money on a car, what happens the first time you need a repair? Buy a used 2003 Base and save a few bucks for a rainy day.

I think you might be able to do it. Keep an eye on the dealer inventory section of the Nissan website starting a few weeks ahead of when you will be ready to buy. See if any of the dealers have one or more 2004's sitting on the lot. That time of year, there will be 2005's coming in and the dealers will be trying to get rid of their remaining 2004's. In addition, there MIGHT be incentives on the 2004's - Edmund's.com is a good source for that info. There was a previous financing incentive on the 2004 6-speed Touring model (though it's expired now), so incentives on 350Z's aren't unheard of. Try to find a 2004.5, since those have the most fixes to early problems. Also, don't rule out stepping up to an enthusiast if the dealer comes down enough and there is enough of a factory incentive and no base model is available.

I would caution, though (like DiRN), that it is definitely not advisable to stretch to the edge of the envelope budget-wise.

$25k for a NEW Z? Probably not going to happen, even for a Base. Invoice price for a Base without any other options, per edmunds.com, is $24,663. Add $540 destination to that and the minimum you're going to pay, if a dealer is even willing to sell the car to you at his cost (and given the popularity/demand of this car, this is highly unlikely), is $25,203. Plus, you need to add tax/title/license fees. I'd say the chances of getting a drive-off price of $25k or less is close to zero.

Even with a VPP discount, after taxes/title/license you won't be under $25000. If you really can't "go a dollar more" than $25k, then you're pretty much stuck with buying used.

Buy one used. How can you get picky and want a brand new sportscar?! Its not even your money.

The popularity / demand for this vehicle has already diminished with the arrival of the RX8. The Z may still be outselling it, but there is no doubt that it is taking some customers that would have bought Z's. In addition, this summer sees the arrival of all-new (and reportedly much improved) Mustangs and Corvettes. The release of these cars will further erode the demand for 350Z's. These factors, combined with the release of 2005 Z's will mean the dealers will be much more open to negotiation and the factory may offer cash incentives on the remaining 2004's. If you don't believe me that the demand has softened, you can look at any of 3 different sources.

1) Nissan is reporting that year-over-year sales of the Z are down 17% from 2003 YTD as of the end of march.

2) Look at the "What did you pay?" threads on this board. At first it was $X over MSRP or MSRP. Then, it was $X below MSRP. Now, most people are negotiating $X over invoice price. There is a trend in that.

3) Look at the dealer inventories on the Nissan website. This is one of the things I did before I tried to make a deal on mine. The cars are now sitting on the lots for weeks - and several dealers have 6-12 sitting on the lot versus the "we're getting 3 in next week, but 2 are already sold" situation of a year ago.

I don't know that he WILL be able to do it, but I think he's got a shot if he does his homework and Nissan offers incentives on the 2004's when the 2005 Z's come out.

Default finance??

put a huge down payment on the car and finance the rest, that way you'll have low car payments. Actually with 25k down you'll pay next to nothing.

If you can barely afford the car.. What's going to happen when you need tires down the road.

Sorry bro, but at this point even without mark-up, the tax and license will boost you over $25K. If you aim towards max $27K, you MIGHT be able to fit the cap nicely... but used is your best bet for the $25K budget.

And following up with jimbrowski, maintenance and insurance for this vehicle in no joke... hope that you can account for that too

If you were able to get a Base at invoice, then yes, you can get a Z for under $25K minus tax, license, delivery, etc. You'll either need superb negotiating skill, or you'll need to find a dealer with slow sales... or both

Some of you are quoting invoice as dealer cost. It's not. The dealer actually pays 3% below invoice (do a search on dealer hold back).

IF there ends up being a $1,000 incentive on the 2004's when the 2005's come out, the math comes out this way:

$24,663.00 Base Invoice Price
-$1,000.00 Incentive
-$739.89 Dealer Hold Back
-------------
$22,923.11
$1,604.62 7% Tax (I don't know what it actually is there)
--------------
$24,527.73

That means $24,527.73 PLUS tag and title fess AND dealer profits. Of cousre, that's IF you can find a base 6-speed Z without options or accessories. I think it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but there could be some things that make this more plausible.

1) If you're trading in a $10,000 vehicle, that would mean $700.00 less in taxes.
2) Higher incentive - doubt it. I think there will be an incentive on the remaining 2004's in August/September, but I don't see it being over $1,000 (if that).
3) You find an extra $1,000 in the cushions of your couch (or your parents give you your Christmas present in cash 3 months early).

Get a job. Buy a new Z (any model/options you want). Put the 25K towards the down payment. Finance the rest. If you finance for only a few thousand dollars, you'll have it paid off in no time, or will have monthly payments so low you won't have to worry about it.

Just make sure you do step one FIRST!

What's up man. You responded to my "Dealership Experiences", the Radiohead fan. Anyways, I JUST got an e-mail today from Nissan saying that they are releasing the 2005 Z's early fall (around Sep. or Oct.) this year. If you wait i'm sure you can get a very good "incentive" on a Z because the dealerships will have to get rid of the 2004

Pluss I have to strongly agree with cedusett.

Good luck to you man!
