Z Order Issue-Did the Dealer Lie to Me?
Anyone have any advice for this situation?
I ordered a silverstone performance Z on March 8th. I was told at the time of the order that my car would be here in 6 to 8 weeks. About 2 weeks ago I called and asked the dealer I went through approximately how long until the car would arrive. He told me 3 weeks. Well, its been two weeks since then, so out of anticipation and the fact that I was headed to the bank tomorrow after work I went ahead and called to get the date of delivery. He ended up telling me the car would be here during the first week of June. I was rather disappointed to be sure. Also I wanted to note that I had to call him back at 4pm est. after leaving him a voicemail at like 7am.
Should I be concerned at all? Did anyone order around the same time I did? If so how is your order going? I am seriously looking to just find one on a lot at this point as I wanted the car by the first of May at the latest.

I did a search on Nissan's site, but they are all enthusiast models and I really want a performance. This search was for 100 miles within Cincinnati, Oh..so..kinda stuck at this point.
Btw, what would I need to do in order to get the VIN? Just call the dealer?

Hard to say if your getting the run around. Back in the day I got
lied to big time when I purchased a Mustang GT. They kept telling
me next week for almost 2 months. I cancelled the order and bought a BMW.
I believe that your contract states that if the vehicle is not delievered with in a certain time(like 45days) from the order date you can cancel the order.
If this is true then I would let the dealer know that if the car is not delievered when he is stating you will cancel.
I too would call around and see if the car you are looking for is
somewhere else. someone's gotta have the car you want.

Maybe they keep selling your car to someone else....
Think about it...someone else comes in, wants your car....is the salesperson gonna turn them away? You're a sure thing, so they sell your car to the other guy and order another one for you. Double profit!
Now, not saying this happened...but man, I wouldn't put it past em! Buy one on the lot, or tell them you're going to go elsewhere, since they told you one thing, and have failed to produce the car.

The problem is, you ordered the car when they weren't in production. The dealer gave you a date, but who knows what he based it on. He may have just said what he thought was reasonable. It can take up to 2 months from when it goes into production to arrive, and if it didn't go into production until the beginning of this month, the first week of June could well be the case depending on how backed up the factory is. But like JetPilot said, try to get a VIN.
I ordered my car 1-7-04 $1000.00 deposit on my credit card. I was told they place orders only once a month so we have to get in in now or we would have to wait till Feb. to place the order. I was told it would take three months to get the car. I called last week thinking my car should be here soon, the salesman told me that when the car comes off the assembly line Nissan would give him the VIN and it would be two weeks after that. I posted a thread and was told to get an order # and order date from the dealer, call 1-800 - nissan something and I could track the car myself. I called and it turns out the car was not ordered till Feb 5th. One month after they took my $ and my car won't be here till May 5th. I have been Very cool with these Guys But if that car is not here early next month they will see a side of me thay have yet to see. I WANT MY CAR!!!!!
From my experience I would say the dealer is lying to you. No offense to any dealers on here as I am sure there are a few good ones out there, but I have yet to find one that is honest with me. Here is my situation.
I put my money down last wednesday on a silverstone enthusiast 6mt with side airbags. The dealer told me no problem, it would be here on thursday or friday. I gave him thursday because that was his day off. I call him on friday and he tells me he is still trying to locate one and he would call me back. I don't hear from him so I call on saturday. Same response and no returned call to update me. Monday, he actually calls me to confirm the color I wanted, even though he had it written down right in front of him. He mentions he can get the exact car in a different color, and even has one like I want in blue on his lot. I tell him exactly what I am looking for again. He sounds a little disappointed and tells me he will call me back. No call. I call Tuesday. This time "his boss is actually looking for the car as we speak" so he puts me on hold to go talk to his boss and see what is going on. He comes back and tells me he can't find his boss, who was supposedly looking for the car as we spoke. Tells me he will call me back. No call so I call him again later. This time he tells me his boss is going to call nissan and see what they can find for me. He will call me back. No call. Call wednesday, he is in the middle of something and will call me back. No call. He was off again yesterday....
At this point I really just want to get my deposit back. What was supposed to take a day or two at the most has turned into a week and a half. I actually knew going in that I was going to have to order the car. I had already checked with another dealer and they couldn't locate the car either. I walked away from that dealer after they told me they had a car already on a truck being shipped to them, and then it turned out that the dealer that was shipping it to them sold it out from under them. I guess it wasn't already on the truck after all. So far, this dealer has not even offered to order one for me, he just keeps insisting that they will locate one and it won't be a problem finding it.
I wrote the dealer a check for the deposit and of course he cashed it the next day. I am sure when I show up at the dealer he is going to give me a big run around and not want to give my deposit back. If they refuse to return the deposit I guess I will have to get my attorney involved.

Look,
I know that most dealers suck. I am not contending that but lets us a little logic here.
Dealership do not get paid unit cars are delivered into the customers possession. Sales people do not get paid til you take delivery.
It is not in the dealership best interest to prolong your order.
However, The Toyota Sienna is a hot product for Toyota. When it was a sticker price only vehicle, one dealer on our area actually took deposit at $600-1200 off sticker. What they did was "take customers out of the market"
Once the market slows down (now getting 1200 off sticker price is about average, 5.5% over invoice as it is 6 month later). The poiint is some dealerships will wait until the market so slow down to sell your the car (meaning the people who paid more will get their car first)
If your price is too good to be true, then maybe you're being screwed with.

It takes approx. 3 month from the time the dealer orders it. They only order once a month, usually in the first week of that month. If you go in around the 10'th let say, your order won't actually go to Nissan till the beginning of the next month then the 3 month clock starts. As you can see, in theory it could take almost 4 months.
BTW, I ordered mine on Oct 31'st. The dealer actually placed the order on Nov 7'th. My car showed up on January 27th, almost exactly three months later. I was ready to order in the middle of Oct but knew because of the timing involved in the order process I still had a couple of weeks to do the actual deal.
I could have ordered mid Oct and then bitched because it took longer than three months....

Nissan also will not send any new cars to a dealership until the cars they have are sold. Nissan has quotas for each coast. I ran into this problem, I order a Perf. model and nissan would not except the order until the dealership had sold what they had already ordered. I asked my dealer what he had on order, that he was waiting for. I bought a Touring Model he was expecting in 5 weeks, he gave the date they expected it, and it arrived early.
The difference between the Perf. and Touring is leather seats and sound package, and some minor upgrades.

I actually just called him again and he is now screening my calls. I spoke with the secertary and I could hear him in the background telling her to tell me he would call me back.
yeah same thing happened to me...i agreed on a special order for a Z. The salesman said that I'd get a call in a week with more info on delivery date and VIN. I call back 2 weeks later inquiring about more info and get a annoyed response..."Look, I'm not going to call you every week." I was surprised, and even more surprised when he said that the car was never ordered. He didn't even bother to give me a call...sucks. Oh well...the things we go through to get the car we want! I would have walked a long time ago had it not been for the great price I was quoted.
I have a related story. I oreder my Z from my dealer in January. I know the salesguy and the owner (who is a Z guy), was orginally recommended there by a close friend, have bought several cars there, and have a whole circle of friends who have bought cars there. Needless to say I trusted the salesguy and got a very good price.
I was told the car was ordered in the Feb window, and was told certain options were mandatory on a special order. Occasional calls just got me "I haven't heard anything yet."
A few days ago my salesguy called me and admitted that he had never ordered the car. He claimed his dealership was not allocated any more Z's until summer and thus could not order one. He apologized profusely, and said that he had been trying to find me one through other means, and didn't want to lose the sale.
I was pissed, and told him if he had explained it to me I would have understood. I sincerely thought about cancelling my order, but I really want this car and the price is unbeatable. But the salesguy faxed my a VIN number, build date 5/04, ship date 6/04. He claims it will be here the first week of June, I think that it way too optimistic.
I'm planning on calling back and asking for some concessions froms my dealer to keep the order, but I can already envision the excuses: "We're not making any money on the sale as it is." I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Just go in and cancel your order. If a dealer is gonna do you like that, then they don't need your buisness.

Good advice from The Brickyard Rat. Check the inventory of other Nissan dealers within 100 miles and email them if you see a car they have. (Or even if they don’t have the car.) Email ALL other dealers within 100/200 miles; tell them what you want and have them quote you a price. Generally the person who response to the Internet quires are NOT the floor salesmen. Most dealers have a special internet or fleet managers who handle this. Generally speaking they are more up front with you and tend to jerk people around less.
In my own buying experience I dealt with 3 Nissan dealerships. One by Internet/phone and the other 2 in person. The guy I dealt with by phone was the easiest going and seemly most honest. Unfortunately he did not have the car I wanted and one I dealt with in person did. But it was all good in the end.
You need to find a dealer out there who will work WITH you, not AGAINST you. Any Z you want CAN be found SOMEWHERE in the US today. It’s just a matter of finding the dealership who will locate it for you and trade for it. ALL dealerships do it everyday all over the US. The afternoon I bought my Z (in Kansas) the GM told me he’d just got a call from a Mississippi dealer who wanted my Z for a trade.
Car buying is a job. It takes time, energy, and sometimes hard work on your part. But in the end you be driving what you want and nothing beats driving the Z of your dreams.
Don’t allow the dealer to JERK YOU AROUND. You are paying THEM a lot of money make them work for YOU.
Good luck.
Oops! I didn’t read Melissa’s post before I posted.
She is the type of salesperson I was referring. Someone who will work FOR you. That is the type of dealership you should be working with.
