Default Smooth Tranny

Although the engine is supposely broken in around 1500 miles, I noticed that on my car, the transmission isn't really broken in until around 9500 miles.

I had all the typical traits: Tramission whine when accelerating or decelerating from 1st or 2nd, shifting notchiness, rattling noise when clutch is out.

My car now has around 9700 miles. I couldn't be more happier with the transmission. The typical whine is barely noticeable now. When accelerate or decelerate, all you hear is engine and exhaust. Gears engage smoothly and accurately. First gear is much smoother starting out. Parking in the garage after driving home, I listened for the clutch-out noise. Although it's there, it is faint. The MAIN plus is that the gears are no longer so restrictive. For example: When the car was new, you would slow down quick if you let off on the gas in 1st gear. It was like going uphill. But now the transition from 1st to 2nd is excellent

I don't know if any of you notice the difference. But for me it's huge. It is the best it has shifted since I bought the car.

This is great news, hope mine behaves the same way as yours when it hits 9500 miles.

Only 4500 more miles to go!

I hope that happens with my transmission. I only have slight notchiness in second and fifth just enought to get your attention. I love the transmission otherwise. I have 4500 miles on my car and I be will keeping my fingers crossed. I glad things came together for you since your transmission sounds like it is much worst than mine!

Mine has some stick to it when going into 2nd gear. I was hoping that this may go away with some time for breakin...

If not, then that 5 year warranty will come into play....

I've been toying with the way I shift and that has made a lot of difference. When I first got the car I babied the transmission too much. I find with a swift but smooth shift it goes in much better. Still the transmmission seems like it shouldnt be as resistant to my shifts....
