I have always hated the term "Rice". Really...common now people...do you guys actually think it's a kool term?
Yes the term was funny when it first surface years ago...but now it's just embarrassing when you see 60+ year old men using it. "That car is rice", "It looks ricey", "Too ricey for me"...etc. Think about how stupid these sentence sound. Every time I hear someone use this term I always give them the .
Could we go back to using "Stupid"/"Retarded"/"Ugly" instead???

Rice to me is when somebody goes over board with the mods externally. Modding your engine to the extreme is always a good thing as long as the car is fast and reliable. But when you see a cars that has mods that serves no purpose to me that is "Rice". For example I saw a 89 accord (square body) with a supra wing, sticker down the door, lights on his rims and stock exhaust. Then he has the nerve to look at me at the light as to say" Are u ready to Race". I was like you gotta be kidding me. When the light changed I stayed there a second, so, that I could watch the guy take off and zig zag through traffic. I laughed all the way home.

what I always told was, it refers to a car of Asian persuasion. Nissan, Toyota, Mistsubishi, Kia, etc. not that it had anything to do with mods, power etc, I had a Toyota pickup that my ex boss called a ricer.

I see term "rice" strictly as a defenition for changes that serve no practical function and hurting performance. Such modifications OFTEN (But not necessary) look like it's done for racing. As if somebody misspelled word "race". It has nothing to do with asian cars, or asian nations. It's just a coinsedence it's the same as main asian food.
Any car could be raced. I've seen a picture of a Ferrari with Porsche's label "Turbo" glued to the rear. It's not making car faster, it's not making car better, so it's rice.
I for myself always testing whatever I want to do by "will it make car faster/better handling?" If it's just a cosmetic change wich won't affect aerodynamics and not heavier than original, than it's okay and not rice. People do have a right to personalize.
Ultimate rice examples are underbody neon and huge rear spoilers on FWD cars.
Usual rise staff for a Z I see on this forum:
20" wheels or chrome wheels.
Too wide wheels (extra weight kills performance gains)
Most of body kits (heavier than original, worse aerodynamically)
Sunroof
Tinted headlights/brake lights
Fancy front grills (limit access of air into engine compartment/ intake)

Rice is a negative term. Any vehicle can have "rice". I define "rice" with: big wings, ugly bodykits, unpainted body kits, unpainted carbon fiber, fart pipes or exhuast that makes your car sound like a fart can, ugly wheels or wheels that dont match, way too much stickers, neons, when some person buys a civic or any beat up car and starts to mod it, when it really needs body work and a new paint job, wrong badging, etc......

If you can tell us right away how your bodykit positively changed your Cd, lift, and weight, than no, it's not a rice.
Chanses are you bought it for looks, and don't care about performance changes it caused.
Chances are it's heavier and with bigger Cd. We'll never know, because Top Secret or any other kit produsers don't have wind tunnel to test kits.

This whole "rice" thing seems to have reached its peak with the popularity of "The Fast & The Furious" movies. Frankly, I loved the cars in the movies as well as the cars in magazines like Import Tuner or Sport Compact Car.
It all seems to be down to personal choice. Someone might like a wing on a car and say it's aggressive and adds to the car's looks. Another person might say the wing is too large and makes the car look "rice." Who's right?
If I put some stickers on my car, some people would be ok with it--- then there are those that would yell "rice" for having any decals on a car...
What's "rice" for one guy might be "nice" for another guy...
(Boy, try saying that fast 5 times)!
