I did the same thing to hear the Nismo exhaust. We were there to buy a replacement Z for Doug's Z. I noticed the exhaust on a car on the lot. I said I want to hear that exhaust. He said sure. He called the lot boy and said get the keys to stock number *******. He handed me the keys and said go listen. He knew I already had a Z. He knew I was not going to buy the car. He knew that I would not buy anything from him today. I knew he was busy selling a car, but I figured I would ask. If he said no, I would have understood.
A good salesman in my books should not have to try hard to sell a car. It is probably the second most expensive purchase most people will make. There should be no pressure into that kind of sale. Car salesmen who pressure get no love from me. I dont feel bad at all when I ask to test drive a car. I tell them upfront that I am not buying today. If they then try to pressure sale me I give them the treatment. I then pretend to want to buy the car etc. You know when they take you to their office and have the sales manager then come in. I then proceed to give them a fake address and a fake number (usually a strip club phone number). I can play just as many games as them.

Yeah Kingofscion I am agreeing with what everyone here is saying. You are giving car sales managers and salespeople the same stereotype they already have. Your blatant, unprofessional comments are why people hate car salesmen. Nismokid was looking to just see what the exhaust sounds like in person. What the hell is wrong with that?
I am seriously doubting 5 minutes of the guys time affected him making a current sale.
The salesman obviously sucked because he had no idea of what he was talking about with even a simple thing as hp gains from an exhaust. Either that or he was just like 90% of all car salesmen and lied just to make sale.
I am in sales and the most important thing is making your customer happy no matter what it takes. Word of mouth makes a huge differnce in the success of a business.

I just love these ‘salesman’ threads.
I agree with about everyone. What you need to remember is that a salesman is a salesman. Sales is their profession. The car is merely the product. Usually they just drift from one type of sales job to the next. Cars this year, satellite TVs next year, carpets next, etc. etc.
Extremely rare is a “car” guy who happens to sells cars. And those types of people don’t do “well” in sales because because they are too interested in the product (cars) and not the ‘sale’. (In the mind of the GM).
Oh, and I am speaking from experience. When I first graduated from college I was having a hard time finding work. I loved cars and being around them. I saw a new-car sales job in the paper and thought that’ll be fun. Was I ever naïve and in for an education! I’d love talking to people ‘about’ the car instead of ‘selling’ the car. I studied all the literature, materials, watched all the product videos, and studied everything about each vehicle. Within a month I knew more about every vehicle than any salesman at the dealership and some had been there 20 years or more. 99% of them couldn’t have less about the vehicles, and the GM didn’t care that the salesman didn’t know anything either. The only thing they studied was options, color combinations, price, etc.
I sold enough to survive for several months until I found a “real” job. But I didn’t make the GM happy because I was too easy going and not high pressure enough. But I had fun. I loved driving all the “neat” trade-ins; I’ve driven dozens of cars that I’d never been able to otherwise.
It was definitely an eye opening experience for this kid.

The owner of the dealership I work for does everything with honest and integrity. An so it trickles down from the top to teh bottom. We do what we can to make customer happys.
buisness is about relationships. I can recognize every customer I have ever sold a car too (157 in 1 year as a sales person), if any of them asked to look under the hood of any car, or if they asked o advice on how to buy a car from another non Toyota dealership, I certainly would help them. If I see a customer of mine is service, I'll offer them my demo so they can tool around town rather than get bored drinking coffee and bad tv. As a sales manager, if someone who bought a car from another dealerships someone asks me to give them that same service I have to ask my self if it makes sence too.
I will not offer ALL of that same service to a stranger.
My customers rant and rav and send my more referal than I can handle. Why? because we take care of them.
In most dealership, Sales people are not paid to sell accessories
(altho Scion is different, and each dealership will ahve their own pay plan). If they are paid to sell accessories its when they add it to a car.
Now if someone is "just curious" about a car, it IS a sales person job to show that car, build value, and make the customer feel better about doing business their.
but it is NOT a salesperson job is someone is just curious about an exhust.
I agree most sales people are jerks, but you guys act like sales people are your "b*tchs" They have to do what you want.
In short, if someone asked me to hear an exhust on a car, I would not make my sales person do it if we were swamped. I would make a sales person do it if we were not swamped.
Oh since, you guy probably hate me for caring about a sales persons time, I just wanna add this
I orded my roadster or $31,450.
Just thought I would say that to **** a few people off.
thanks for questionning my integrity!
People are people, treat them the way you want to be treated.
and I AM one of those "car" guys, someone who knows the techication benefits

I am from Milwaukee so if any of you in the area want to buy a Z try Andrew Chevy/Nissan. When the Z first came out they refused to price above sticker and I actually got a discount on my Z. The sevice department and sales manager are great, albeit the sales staff is nothing special --- like most they know little about the cars they sell. Nonetheless, this dealership does stand behind their products.
Whoopty freakin doo KINGOFSCION!! Don't get mad at us because you opened a can of worms. You never know, the sound of an exhaust might push someone over the line to purchase a car if they are seriously debating on buying it that day. So either way, the salesman may lose a sale. Always leave the door open for the consumer/customer. Because I know if I was seriously wanting to hear an exhaust, hear the horn, feel the seats, turn on the windshield wipers, or do whatever it takes for me to decide to purchase this car today and the salesman acts like he doesn't have time for me then guess what......You just lost a customer! And I'm going to tell my friends and they are going to tell their friends and so forth and so on!!!!
Your first reply was not a smart post...
But the 2nd reply is even lamer...
Im waiting to see how low would you go on your 3rd reply.

Wow is this turning into a great thread. Scion keeps digging a deeper hole for himself in his unprofessionalism. Its a wonder that car salesmen have this horrible reputation. A sales manager acting this childish by cursing at people and then bragging for some reason about buying a new Z? I dont get this guy.
