Default Bye Nissan

Just wanted to say good-bye to all you guys. Never really posted much but I read quite often. It was a love/hate relationship with the Z. Loved the looks and torque but the little issues with quality and poor service just kept adding up. I was sad to walk away from her today at the Mitsubishi dealership but it had to be done.
Enjoy your cars. For those of you that do not have any problems or are able to overlook them, I know you will enjoy the Z.

What kinda Mitsubishi did you get? Hopefully you got the Evo, as it's the only interesting car they have IMHO. Only prob is that Mitsubishi's reliability is a little suspect amongst Japanese makes.

Good luck to you!

You're complaining about service issues with the Z and you went and got a Mitsubishi? You a glutton for punishment or something?

sorry to hear that, but I don't think the Evo will be any better than the Z...
enjoy your new car

Default yep, got the evo

As far as the Z, it wasnt a bad car. In fact, in the day I have had the evo, I already miss the always available flat tourque curve. I just encountered too many problems, tire feathering, defective radio, blown passenger window motor, leather on steering wheel peeled off, seat frayed, in-dash cup holder broke, window streaks, terrible paint and I just got tired of the horrendous service Nissan greeted me with when I showed up to have my new car serviced.

All these are little things, and were covered under warranty at no cost to me. Only real hardships being when they kept the car overnight and I had to drive the back-up vehicle, the corolla of fury, and of course the terrible customer service I received from the dealership.

Mitsubishi reliability may be suspect but I will take my chances. Nissan just rubbed me the wrong way. It was with a heavy heart I drove away from the Z today. I loved the car but Nissan had to go.

good choice on the Evo, its transmission is much more stout than its competitor the WRX STi whose transmission is pretty much tapped out

I can understand where your coming from. Ya do what you have to.

One thing though. Be gentle to your interior components. Every button in my old Eclipse Spyder had either fallin' into the dash or the doors. Went to adjust one of the air vents and it fell into the dash, along with the Convert top button. The vinyl on the door panels was starting to separate also. All after the first year. Went through 3 stereos too, the CD player stopped working in all three. They would last for a year then go out. I still have the 3rd one in my garage. It went out 1 week after the 3 year warranty expired. Fun car, but Nissan's quality is stellar compared to Mitsu.

All that said, I also have a 90' Mitsu Galant, it is totally different. The best zero trouble car on the planet. I know even Nissan could NOT build a better car. Must be all in what year and model ya get.

Good Luck.

Sorry to hear of your dissapointment. Good roads to you !! I am new at this and my Z is on it's way to me now. I pick it up at the dealer June 10. I bought it knowing about the tire issue but couldn't help myself, I love the car!! It is a 04 touring with the aero pkg. No Nav Sys. It is the coupe in Le Mans Sunset. When I get my personalized plate will change my name here. I hope to make it to Stillen in June but am cuttin it close, but I am a Z owner!! I am very interested in the rallys and meets and think we should do something in Palm Springs, like the Harley Rally, and get some vendors to set up in the streets, etc...
Dreamin' of drivin'.....

Enjoy the EVO.

But I must add, I find it interesting that you chose Mitsubishi. Not only did they just get dumped, but their quality is dubious among Japanese manufacturers. I would have thought someone sick of the reliability of Nissan would have gone to Lexus. They have superior customer service and quality in their vehicles.

Default reliability

DragonGcoupe... I may be in for issues down the road with a Mitsubishi but I was knee deep in issues with the Z already. I considered the IS300 and even the AMG Mercedes but Im a kid at heart and I want a car I can toss around and not worry too much about it. I want a car I can take down dirt roads and wind out without worrying if I am going to scratch the paint. I was always worried about how "pretty" my Z was. I will not have that problem in the EVO. Im hittin the dirt roads and putting up some rooster tails. I could never do that in my precious Z. Like I said, Im just not grown up enough to enjoy a nice touring car. I wanted a go fast no frills rally car and the only stipulation was that Nissan would never get any of my business again. I love the Z and its heritage and it took a lot for me to overlook it but Nissan worked very hard at losing my business. I am very comfortable with my decision.

Again, thanks for the support and enjoy your cars.

i think people get confused about brand reliability vs. individual model reliability. there are lots of brands with horrible reliability reputations but have one or two cars in their lineup which are built with higher quality standards. the evo is one of those cars.

just curious, what other cars did you look at when you were trading in the z?

I seriously considered the STI, looked at the IS300, and walked into and out of the Mercedes dealership. I have been thinking of the EVO for quite some time. I loved them before they even made it this way.

The Z was an impulse buy when I had to have a vehicle due to mine being stolen. It was my first Z and unfortunately my last. I think I just bought something that I didnt really want in the first place. I want turbos and 5000 RPM clutch burning launches. The Z was beautiful but to me it was a liability. I was beginning to dread taking care of the thing. Five hours on the weekend just to keep it looking presentable. I will take care of the EVO but nobody is going to notice if I was too lazy to put that 30th layer of Zaino on or not.

Hell, in the end the car will probably go to someone that will appreciate it more than I ever could. Hoepfully it does. At least I like to think that it will find a good owner.
