If older Z owners are pissed because they "understand" the value of money and don't like to see a kid get handed a new Z,... screw them. All you crying middleaged wussies get some motivation under your asses and strive to make the money so you can by your kid one. Imagine what that could do to the economy.

Rock on!! silverstone 04.

i always worked for my cars. my first car was a 1965 Chevelle Malbu SS. I got that when I was 17. I'm now 20, and I have a 350Z Touring, loaded w/out nav, and i got that all on my own too. I pay my own insurance, payments, ect. ect. I'm B paper credit, and have a credit line better than my 27 year old brother.

If you work hard for what you have, who gives a rats a** what people say. Just say, excuse me sir, are you driving a 35k sports car? Even if daddy did give it to you, it means you have it easy. doesn't mean you don't have to work hard, but you get a good start on life. most people don't have that advantage, so don't screw it up.

Threads like this can be taken as a 17 year odl bragging that they have a nice car and that their family has money, IMO that is one of the reasons why many older Z drivers don't like the younger ones. In the SoCal forum, there is me and Daytona350z who both are 17 and instead of making these posts we get to know the people in that forum and go to meets and stuff. We don't try to figure out "why people hate us" because if you don't give them reason to they wont
Psyc0 is right. In my younger days, I often said stuff spontaneously without thinking about how I would come across. There's a fine line between confidence and cockiness. Most of the time, maturity is the only thing that helps us recognize that fine line and avoid getting ourselves in trouble.

As in any group (whether you're young or not), it's always best as a newcomer not to come in so gung ho and ready to take on the world. You're always going to offend someone by doing so.

I've learned to hang back a little bit and LISTEN more than I do talk. (There's a reason why God gave you 2 ears and only 1 mouth-- you should listen twice as much as you talk!)

In time, members of the group will learn to look beyond your age, inexperience, etc. and recognize the contributions that you can make to the group. Give them a chance to see the real you and I think you'll make some real friends on this forum.

Ya people hate all the time. I got my Z about 2 months ago now and poeple constantly try to give me crap for it.

Here is my favorite. I go to SRJC and this kid came up to me and asked me if i was driving daddies car. I told him nicely its my car and I just bought it recently. Then he said oh you must still live at home then. Nope sorry dude i have my own apartment and i also pay for my own school. The guy was so pissed off that he just walked away. It was a classic. Just becuase im 20 and i drive a Z everyone thinks it was a donation. haha

hehe well im 18 and I just bought a Z. I am paying for it. Parents just gave me the value of my other car they bought for me. So i put down payment of 12,000 and fiancing ever bit of it. They let me put all that money as downpayment as a present for graduation. So i am paying pretty much most of the car. That doesnt seem unfair? My first car was a 95 acura integra ls with 130,000 miles..

I am already finding alot of people are jealous.. they think my mom and dad are paying for it all.

It's not a dislike, personally I have no problem with young Z drivers. I'm 26 so although I may be almost 10 years older than you I'm not exactly ready to retire. From a personal point of view, the thing that makes me a bit nervous about the younger drivers is that your actions may give the rest of the Z community a bad rep. As long as you're responsible and drive your Z in a safe manner I you'll always have my respect. Just don't hurt yourself or the Z, enjoy it and learn from it.

By the way, I'm incredibly jealous, wish I was in your shoes. I see what the car does for my "social calendar" now, I can only imagine having it when I was in High School.

...i'm not knocking on you...but you DID ask for reasons why older people might dislike you for having ur car.

props to you for having a Z at your age and being able to pay for it. i would just suggest to you that you know it's going to happen just cause you're a younger driver...just accept it and move on.

but at the same time, i still disagree about the whole idea of "if you have the money, buy your kid something they've always wanted". imo that's just the same as spoiling them. i don't care who you are, most kids that age that are just handed a car like a Z33 is never going to really understand the meaning of working for what they have. if you make the kid work for it or do enough for it then that's great...but just handing a teenager a 30k sports car isn't what i call a great idea. in the end they will just get hassled and ridiculed for being spoiled. just my two cents...not trying to offend anyone.

I don't think young people necessarily have to pay for their car themselves. I'm 16 and I am very lucky to have parents that are willing to pay for a 350z. I didn't pay for it and I don't think that I need to pay for it at this point. Before getting the car I had to maintain my grades and do the usual good kid stuff. One of the main reasons that they got me the car was because I've been picking up a bunch of scholarships. Eventually, I think I will get a full ride to some college(probrably Rutgers). My parents gave the car to me as a sort of reward I guess. I think that the price of 1 or 2 years of college vs. the price of a 350z evens out.

Am I in favor of bad kids getting good cars? No, of course not. I am, however, in support of parents rewarding their children who try to excel in school.

Obviously, everyone's situation in life is different. The older folks who have "earned" their cars really don't know the situation of every young person. I think that they make generalizations and think that the kids with nice cars are all spoiled brats who get anything and everything they ask for. This obviously can't be the case with everyone. The hating should stop since no one truly understands the situation that everyone else is in.

i am going to agree with 04_CS_Z33 here, i'm perfectly fine with young guys who are getting a nice car as a reward (it may because they got into an awesome university and getting a full scholarship ride for it)

(no offense) but i think it's weird (i think i'm just jealous ^^) when a 16 yr old who just got his license and just gets a brand spanking new car.

Not hating or anything...just expressing my feeling...

This whole thread is so rediculous it should stop. Both sides are acting like children. The children who are lucky to own these cars because their parents bought it for them or they got the money some other way and the older owners who could have earned their money to buy their cars or were lucky enough to have wealthy parents leave them an inheritence that allowed them to get their Z. It doesn't matter how you got your Z. What matters is what you do with it once you got it. There are child owners who act and drive like children and there are older owners who act and drive like geriatric cases. We need to address the behaviors of these people and not immediately jump to some general concusion that certain people because of their, age, sex, race etc. are this or that.

there was an older post about this back in the day when the 03's first came out. I remeber one guy make an interesting point. something along the lines of: "Put yourself in the kids shoes. If your parents ever gave you the chance to own that car, gratis, how many of you in your right minds would actually decline that?" I know there are some of you who would say: 'oh yeah i'd totaly turn it down' just to prove a point...but i also know that 99 percent of you would definately jump on the chance to own a car at that age.

Don't knock. Be happy that the guy's got a good start in life. Why do people have to assume that the kid doesn't know the value of a dollar. Just because he got the car at an early age isn't an indication that he lacks financial responsibility. He could be very good with money and the car could just be something his parents left to him as a legacy.

also, as i commented in another thread like this...age doesn't necesarily indicate maturity. It does most of the time, but not all the time. Some teens are very mature...some adults are very childish. It goes both ways.
