Orange Peel on your Z
I attended a meet this weekend in West Chester, mostly z32s.
There was one other 350 and there were remarks about orange peeling. I didn't know what it was until someone pointed it out on both cars.

Was discussing the price difference between the Boxster-S ($47.5k for used '00) vs 350Z, with a Porshe guy. He pointed out the orange peel on my rear bumper (black) - he said Porshe does not skip the "wet sand / buff out" step to save a few bucks.
The next night he was driving his 911 - red door / primer hood / yellow fender / etc. - all oxidized, but no orange peel.

Honestly, the orange peel problem is pretty bad these days..
I've even seen it on a ferrari 360 modena.. Its easy to pick up on it in a showroom with overhead lights and strong reflections.
I just hope that in 10yrs or so, the waterbased paint wont be peeling off everyone's cars..

as I was walking in the store).
I haven't received my 350Z yet but that will be the first thing I check for. Is there anything we can do about orange peeling? Will the dealer fix it if it's under warranty? Do we have a warranty for the paint?
Look at the poll results. 25% of the people have flawless paint jobs with no orange peel. That's a sign of inconsistent quality control in the paint process. Either that or 25% of the respondents do not know how to identify the condition.

So could someone explain orange peel to a dumb person?
Thanks

Look at your car and see your reflection. The imperfection that you see is called orange peel because it has the ripples like an orange.
There is a not so simple solution that I am actually doing tomorrow. Im going to wet sand my car and buff it out and get rid of the orange peel. Ill post pictures and see if you can see the difference.
