Default F**K all the Z haters. When an F40 driver says...

he likes your car and loves the lines, design, etc., you can pretty much take that as a very nice compliment. True story, no ****. There's a red F40 here in town that the owner just picked up a couple of weeks ago. '91 with only ~500 miles on the clock when purchased. I've never seen one in real life and even my wife was digging it. We had just pulled into Lowe's when I spotted the Ferrari out in the back of the lot and parked right next to it, leaving a one car buffer of course.

We drooled for a few minutes and the owner came strolling out. I told him, "It's ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!" and my jaw just about hit the ground when he said in return, "So is yours!" Super-nice guy. Entertained our questions for about ten minutes talking about the Ferrari and the Z. Said he loved the lines of the Z and was geniunely interested in talking about it. I finally quit asking questions and let him go on his way, thanking him for taking the time to speak to us. He said he loved to talk other enthusiasts and it was no bother at all. Cool guy.

I'm still stunned from seeing the car not to mention the fact that the owner was so complimentary towards the Z. No matter what you read in a magazine or on other boards, the 350Z is a special f**king car. Believe it.

I don't think you will find all that many Z haters on this board.

For anyone interested in seeing some pictures of a Ferrari F40, here's one that was recently up on Ebay with some nice shots: Ferrari F40 . It's funny, the first day I had my new Z, I was on top of the world and an F40 passes right in front of me while at a stop sign. It kind of brought me back down to reality...well, for the next 5 minutes or so! In hindsight, I should have caught up to him, raced him and beat his ***, but I hadn't broken my car in yet and he had his son (I assume) in the passenger seat which probably would have embarrassed him...

You mean he parked an F40 out in the open like that??? There was no armed bodyguard next to the car?

I know really. But, hey.. I'm sure he pays quite a bit for insurance.

I hate that people are afraid to put any miles on their cars.

Get a portfolio if you want an investment, drive the damn car.

I LOVE the F40, it is one of my all time favorite cars (top 5 at least). I have never seen one on the street because they are rare and also because their owners would rather drive their land rovers and such than put any miles on their baby.

I wish you could have snapped a couple of pics with the F40 and the Z together.

Was it red? I can't remember if it came in any other color.

I completely agree! Many people I talk to say they cannot put miles on their car. My feeling is that I don't want to basically shelter my car, saving it for the next owner. I want to use my Z. Not kill it, simply use it. If that means many miles, so be it. I want to enjoy my Z, not save it for someone else to enjoy.

I believe a car will be valuable because of the car it is, not beacuse it has no miles or is rare.

I might be wrong, but I've seen ZR-1 vettes with almost no miles on them going for less than when new. So the owner has sat on them for over a decade while they lost value.

I also see SL mercedes with over 100K selling for more than when new, and these are not rare cars like the ZR-1's.

Biggest compliment I've received is when a Muscle Car freak ( I'm talkin Olds Judge owner) absolutly freaked at the styling and performance of my car. These guys are not Known for the love of Import cars. I've run into quite few Mustang, Chevelle SS, and Baracuda guys who hate Imports over the years but this car is getting respect from every car community.

So what was this F-40 owner picking up at Lowe's in his Ferrari??? Some lumber? A new lawnmower???

Seriously, I've seen a couple of F-40's in person (Mike Tyson has two here in Las Vegas; what a waste of great car on a not so great guy), and they are breathtaking in person. It's great that he acknowledged the Z in such a positive way.

Let's see...how many Z's could you buy for the price of an F-40.............

Took a look at the F40 on e-bay. Thought about droppin' a bid down on it but then I looked at the pics. Cheap interior, not much trunk space, NO CUPHOLDER!!......HELLLLLLLLOOOOOO! I mean I can see skipping it in the Maclaren or the Vanquish but come on now Ferrari. Shame on you.

Caulk. My wife and I were laughing about being able to drop ~$400K on an F40 and wanting to do your own caulking.

I forgot to mention that he said he also has a 355 F1. The guy was BIG money. I'm thinking he's a senior executive for EDS, JCPenney or Frito Lay which are headquarted just a couple of miles south of Frisco.

LOL, you should have asked for a ride or a race Brad. If you want to see an f-50, then John Carmack's twin turboed f-50 may be hanging around Norwood's shop. The first time I saw that thing a few years ago, I was thought to myself "damn, what a filthy Ferrari." Then again, Carmack drives his Ferrari(s) like Hondas.

Michael.

Guys like this F40 driver you met show real class. I had similar comments from the driver of a very nice Porsche. It's all too easy to look down your nose at people with lesser cars: how many of us would say nice things to a young person who was obviously proud of their new Celica, Civic SI or whatever? If you owned an F40, it would be easy to ignore an inexpensive Japanese sports car as being way beneath your class, but guys like this haven't let it get to their heads. (Perhaps this quality is partly why he has risen so high in the ranks of wherever he is working.) This is a good lesson for all fellow car owners to be able to appreciate all kinds of cars, even if it's not what you have chosen, or "beneath" your current level in the market.
