Thinking of trading my m3 in for a Z?
Thanks a lot guys for the suggestions, but in terms of getting power out of the s54 engine (3.2l 333hp) its really hard to do as well a extremly expensive. There is only on SC out by AA and it cost 8600 w/o install, and it will bump me up about 75hp. Then theres another one in the works by evosport which bumps hp up to 500 (estimated) but that one costs 17,000. Now think about it this way i spent close to 60k for the car now to get the performance i want i have to spend another 10k on something that might not even be reliable. The m3 interior is nice but its not that nice to be honest with you, i had an audi before ti and it walked all over the bimmer, and i love the sportiness of the interior of the Z. All in all if i was to sell the M and get a Z i would pocket about 20k+ to mod it, and i think for that money i can do a good amount of stuff. My ultimate goal is to find a car and make it into an amzing show car and the bimmer is just to expensive to compete with. If you have any other cars that you think might suit me better please let me know.
Have you considered the Audi S4? It is almost as fast as an M3, is AWD, and has a great interior.
I don't know about the potential of the S4's engine though, you will have to do research on that.

Keep this in mind, the performance aftermarket for the Z is somewhat still in its infancy. In a couple years, as more parts become available, one would expect the prices to drop due to the competitiveness among manufacturers. So although it's pretty costly now, expect it to only get better for us later. Having said that, you have to decide wether you want to pay for panache. It's been said before, but the Z will never get the pimp status that the M3 has.
Oh hell....get the Z!!!!!

Dude nothing beats BMW customer service. We just bought a 745Li and we have a 00 X5 4.4i. Dealers treat us like kings. If u really do decided to trade ur M for the Z, be prepared for alot of BS from the nissan dealers. Unless your lucky enough to have a really nice dealer.
From what I'm seeing, you must make pretty good money to be able to own a M3. So why do you have a problem paying for mods?

Also what would you guys rather have a m3 slightly modded (like mine, rims coils a couple body spoilers) or a TT 350z with an amazing stereo, body kit, wheels, BBK, and a custom interior? Let me know
Hehe, you got rich parents like me huh? I'm 18 and my Z is paid off by my parents and whatever money I earn I spend on mods and gas.
I would definately go for the heavily modified Z over the slightly modified M in your case. Your still young and I assume your in college. You need to have some fun before things get rollin.

A slightly modded M3 will not wear out it's appeal as quickly as a heavily modded Z. Also consider how long you plan to keep the car. If it's a short term gig, and your bank roll allows it, then get the Z and have it!!! But if you plan on keeping the car for a while, say 5 years, then consider the fact that in 2009 you will be driving a car that was tight back in '04. It's kind of like driving a modded Fiero with Tri spoke wheels

I have 12000 miles on my PPW Touring with every option available along with some extras. I would trade you my Z for your M-Track in a heartbeat. I will even pay to ship my car to you and have your car shipped to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have an E36 M3 and a 350z.
I love both cars, but I agree the interior quality of the Z is not that of the BMW. As far as modding and the driving experience - its gotta be the Z. Just keep in mind, mine is an E36, an E46 is a different story. Tough decision - Good Luck !

a heavily modded Z will definitely turn more head than a mildly tunned M3....
Z has better low end torque than the M3 too. torque is fun
if you want a fast car to beat your dad's turbo, try the older S4 (the 2.7T one). Throw 10k on it, it'll hang in there w/ the turbo. My coworker's chipped 2.7T S4 kicks my butt off the line. Quattro cars are amazing off the line.
The new S4 might be limited on tuning due to the lack of space under the hood.

Man, What is the deal with the Z's interior....Why does it get such a bad wrap??
I drive a 240sx with a SR20 in it right now, and let me tell you about SH*T *** INTERIOR MAN! The Z's interior is the holy grail to what I got now. The Layout of everything is Superb! Plus I love the way you sit in a Z, it feel soo comfortable and sporty!
I dont have a Z, but I am very close to getting one once I sell my 240sx. If I were you, I would trade it for the Z and use that $20 something grand to get a APS or JWT TT kit when they come out and some nice coilovers! Then you could have money left over to do other smaller things...Maybe rims, aero kit! You would have a SICK Z off that bat! IMO, what the hell are you waiting for.
But one thing I got left to say is, why not get a supra? When I finally sell my car, I am either going to go for a Z or supra...But its going to take me months to figure out what I want...GOOD LUCK, I know things like this are hard to decide on...I am in the same situation with the supra and the Z

What makes you hate American cars so much? I mean, you or I are more likely to work for an American car company designing sports cars one day than for a Japanese car company. I only got my Z b/c I couldn't afford a Z06.
As for cars to whup a 996 Turbo, are you talking about on a road course, on the drag strip, or what? If you're looking for a road course killer, I'd hold out for a Lotus Elise. It's got the same engine as the Celica GT-S which has been very well studied by the aftermarket. Nothing else can touch the Elise for its light weight! If you must have 600+ HP though, you should consider something that's FI from the factory like a Supra TT, Audi S4, STi, or EVO. I have a very strong feeling that the 350Z is just like the old 300ZX ... great up until ~500 HP when things start breaking.
The reason why Supras are still so highly sought after is b/c it's probably the most overengineered, overbuilt car from any manufacturer ever. I mean, the stock 6 speed tranny can handle a huge single turbo + spray! (1000 HP) You seem pretty well to do ... get a Supra to build up as a show/race car and find a decent daily driver for school/work.

i really think its funny when all of you say the bmws service is awesome comapred to nissan. it is probably just the dealers in my area, but it's the complte opposite. nissan = good, bmw = horrible.
anyways, yeah, tuning the m3 is a BIATCH. one of the reasons i got out of the e46 scene. your e46 m3 looks nice, but the thing is, it's so common these days. those are the standard mods people with e46 m3's get. i bet there are 100's of m3's in the US runing the same ACS CF lip spoiler, iforged wheels, the KW coilovers, etc. it just gets redundant IMO. it is probably due to the lack of good looking body add ons and manufactureres that make aftermarket parts, but i just dont think modding an m3 is special anymore. so what i would do if i were you is, i would part the car out, and use that money to mod the 350. you could get atleast 3k for the iforged wheels, 1k for the coils, 2k for the acs front/rear lip spoiler, 800 for the exhaust, and i guess some other stuff i dont know you have. so that's about 6k in play money. if i had 6k in my bankroll right now, my 350z would be done. and i wouldnt touch it anymore. btw, take the extra moeny u make off selling the m3 and make some investments..

The new M3s look like any other 3series BMW. But with a 333hp killer engine. That kind of hp from a 3.2 means its high tech. Ive read the earlier engines been blowing. But if your not concerned about long term reliability,I would keep the bimmer. The 350Zs are cheap to maintain(oil change is only 5qts).
BTW modding the 350Z is alot cheaper then the M3. The Zs engine is not to its max potential hp with stock internals.
