Did search on tire feathering but could not find answer
Hi my 03' Touring 6 speed should be here wed or thurs and I have a question on the tire problem.
I did a search and could not find an answer to my question.
This my be a stupid question but it seems that most of the posts I read the cars have stock wheels and tires.
Does the feathering happen to aftermarket wheels and tires?
Also I read a few posts that some cars pull to one side. After the dealer fixes the problem I have read that the feathering never gets fixed but does the pulling to one side problem get fixed?
The feathering does not bother me too much my last 3 cars ( TT Supras) on the rear tires the inner would wear way before the rest the rest of the tire. So im used to this problem.
One last question my cousin got a letter from Nissan 2 days ago about the problem and to bring it to get fixed. Is this something new or have they recalled this tire thing already and they just cant fix it.
Sorry bout the long first post.

The pulling to the right is a separate issue. There is a TSB solely for that in which a new part is installed. Having this done has no bearing on the feathering but if it aligned after the replacement of the rod for the pulling to the right, I suppose it could indirectly help the feathering somewhat.
As for the aftermarket wheels and tires, we have heard it both ways. There are those that say after they had their wheels/tires changed, the feathering hasn't returned. On the other hand there are scores of members who say it didn't make a difference and they are still feathering.
There are new alignment specs out (As of Jan. 04) and it is probably too soon to know if this will solve or slow the feathering problem.
The letter is to let owners know that they increased the warranty on the tires to 2 years and 20K miles. Nissan will replace your tires (OEM only, not aftermarket ones) if you are within those numbers or they will prorate the cost of new ones if you are over.

My personal experience: I had bad feathering, Nissan replaced the fronts. The second set feathered bad, too. I bought different tires and had it aligned at a performance shop, no signs of feathering in 6,000 miles.
FYI, the tires I bought are Kumho Ecsta KU19's. I'm very happy with them, especially for the price $140. I bought wider fronts, 245/40 instead of the 225/45. It's the exact same diameter, so it doesn't affect the computer, but the wider fronts pretty much eliminated the understeer.
