Default replacement tire help please

If anyone can offer opinions or advice on this issue, it's much appreciated:

I would like to replace the original Bridgestones (225/45/18 and 245/45/18) with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. However, there are no 225/45/18 tires offered from Michelin in that series. They do have 225/40/18 and 235/40/18. Any advice/recommendations, or experience with these tires? (also if 225/40 would the traction control work properly?) Thank you for any help!

Hmmm, that's not been my experience. Why do you say that?

I like my Michelins a lot.

1. They stick well in the hot and dry and in the wet and cold. I haven't had a chance to try them in snow, but I'd be grateful if they'd just get me home when it snows unexpectedly while I'm out, which happens not infrequently here in Denver.

2. On my first track day in the 350Z 2 weeks ago, I ran 5 20-minute heats with the Michelins. On two heats, I had 2 different passengers, both with several years of experience on that particular track. Both were impressed with the tire performance, and both were surprised to hear that I was running all-season rubber. The track was dry with air temperatures into the 80s by mid-afternoon. The tires approached their limits of adhesion very smoothly and predictably. I'm sure I took 1,000+ mi off their lives that day, but they showed no visible untoward wear.

3. In order to preserve speedometer accuracy on my standard 17" wheels, I had to put 235-45/17s on the front and 245-45/17s on the rear. For your 18-inch wheels, the math may come out differently, but 225-45/18s may well be the wrong size for you anyway. Go to www.tirerack.com and get the manufacturer's specs for the stock Potenzas and the Michelins, then match diameters as best you can, adjusting for the stated reference rim widths as needed.

Happy Zing!

I can't help you with the size questions, but I will also add my recommendation for Michelin Pilot Sports. I have them on my Z now (they come in the correct sizes for the 17's) and they are great.
