Perhaps they should not. But:

1. I was referring to the fact this car feels sluggish (to me), and

2. 2 of them drove it, and they agreed on the 'sluggish' above (gotcha!)

3. Additionally, about 50% of other Z owners have complained to me (without me starting any complaints!) on the lack of 'bite' (quoted) for the engine.

So, pretty it is. Fast? If you think mid-5s 0-60 is fast, have you been driving a minivan prior? A mildly modded Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, with that ancient (well, 1997 is old nowadays) cast iron engine can hit mid-5s, and that's a sedan with room for 5! My expectations from a roadster are at least sub-5 0-60 and low 13s in 1/4. Heck, we should be smoking them Subies and Neons without too much trouble, and Mustang GTs should be at least few seconds behind. That'll justify looks and pricing.

Anyhow, nuff b*tchin. I got the car to be modded, so it shall be in two weeks .

Back to the topic: I'm thinking that it is possible that my GTech is not functioning correctly, or I did not set it up correctly (donnow how, but still possible). Also possible is a slipping clutch... so, take my 6.1s runs with grain of salt. True performance numbers, for both SteveZ33 and myself, can only be obtained on a track...

Sincerely,

-Idiot

Damn...if these results are correct, this sorta makes me regret that I got a 6MT. If I can get the same speed and also be lazy at the same time, why not?

Doesn't the 5AT have a highter gear ratio? More low end, but slower top speed.

uh...you do know touring model z's come in both auto AND 6 speed right?

So what is the top speed of the AT vs MT, anybody test this out yet? I would think that with the final drive ratios at 3.54 for the MT
and 3.36 for the AT that the AT would at least equal the MT in top speed. Doesn't the higher number mean lower top end but more low end torque? I remember my 1988 300ZX non turbo had a 3.90 final drive to help out its low end acceleration. But the top speed was only around 128 MPH. My 1984 300ZX Turbo had a final drive of 3.54 and bounced off the 137 MPH speed limiter all the time. I don't know, I'm probably wrong. I've been wrong in the past plenty of times. Guess we really won't know the answer till someone actually trys it. And that would be a very unsafe thing to do so I don't recomend anybody trying this at home.

Higher gear number equals more low end torque, lower top speed.

Hm, a bit off topic, but... switching the final drive from 3.54 (MT) to, say, 2.8 or 3.0, with addition of power-adder (like turbo or SC)... you guys think it would better match the new engine power? I mean, I'm looking at most of the cars that have more power, and their gears tend to be longer, to accomodate grip and acceleration better. If you've got 400HP (crank), your first goes to 50, your second to 75, your third to 115, you'd actually improve 1/4m runs, wouldn't you? Plus, you'd improve MPG, as your 6th would be a true overdrive (5th would hit speed governor). Sorry for off-topic Q, just getting opinions on this...
