Z *** q - Did anyone REMOVE the rear strut tower bar?
Hi Z fans,
I'm considering the purchase of a Z, either enthusiast or performance model, haven't decided yet.
I'm not sure if I have the right forum, but let me get to the point of my post.
Did anyone ever remove the rear strut tower bar off the Z?
Is the big thing just a cover for the bar, or is the big thing an actuall bar?
I would like a lil more room back there, and replacing the stock tower bar w/ a smaller one would be one way of doing it.... or at least remove the coer (if it is a cover) so that I only have a bar there... is that possible?
Thanks in advance,
-Kamil

The big thing IS the strut bar. It's a rigid, hollow monococh sheet metal structure. Hatchbacks are known for being flexy, and Nissan's choice to sacrifice storage space for rigidity is a stong indicator of their commitment to make the Z a REAL sportscar.

No there is no regular bar inside...kind of redundant don't you think? If storage space is what you need, perhaps the G35 coupe would be a more appropriate selection.
I didn't know the innards were also painted to match the exterior. Eh...i guess it makes sense.
Mine, gutted.

mine is painted the color of my exterior... if you have a white car it is white...
i only have the spare in there when driving to and from events... but it leaves my car along with the tools once at the track... id rather not wait aroundfor AAA...
i am taking outmy plastic console behind the seats and all the glove boxes some time this week...

Thanks guys.
I don't like the G35, I will not get that.
I was at BeaveRun few weeks ago and I've seen a Z w/ a roll bar and the interior retained, that would probably my choice. IF I get the Z, I would see myself doing HPDE events in it.
Highway Speed - sway bar = between the control arms, under the car... this is a strut toward bar... well, sort of, in this case (the Z) it looks like an integrated part of the chassis.

The Performance Racing Z's are sweet...if I had the nerve and funds to completely gut the doors and dash, I'd do a full cage just like that. Love watching them on TV.
