Default Center Console Compartment Door

I've noticed that on some models, that door opens and goes inside the dash, but on my Base it only flips out and stays out. I know all the Navigations have this special door but I've seen others without Nav. that have the same type of door.

'03's go into the dash, '04's and up stay outside.

Damn it...shouldn't they be improving things every year? Or at least stay the same...

I actually replaced my entire '04 compartment/door with the equivalent '03 parts. It appears that Nissan has upgraded the new '03 compartment parts to be a bit smoother and more robust than the original parts that came in the '03 cars. The new doors aren't as jiggly and cheap feeling as the original '03 doors I messed with when the '03 cars first came out.

FYI: I wanted the '03 compartment since I did an aftermarket nav install, and the '03 compartment opening is significantly bigger than the '04 opening. Makes it much easier to fit the nav screens in there.
