Default Real crank hp?

z is definily over rated! why? because my dad's clk 430 rated at 275hp dynos at 245rwhp with automatic tranny and no non-sence cf drive shaft.

im thinkin the VQ is at 255 crank hp at most if u just dyno the bare engine. what u guys think?

15%-18% is pretty standard drivetrain loss. I dynoed 242 to the wheels in stock form on a dynojet. That would be about 16% loss. Well within recognized norms. Now the Merc only losing 11% seems a little, um, optimistic?

The Z does not have 287, and it defintely doesnt have 18% loss. Its probably around 270 like dwnshift has actually tested it at.

I think most european cars are under rated.

How does a 330ci be as fast as the G35 coupe even when it has a 55HP less?

One example, the older TT S4, on paper it says it has 250HP and 258 lbs of torque...however in the service manual it's listed as 260 and 290 respectively.

I think Nissan chose their highest numbers, when rating the Z. I get 226-230whp on Dynojet with my 6MT... 20+% loss? I don't think so...

bascelik, you ever think it may be the dyno? Try going to a different dyno vendor and doing it there. Besides consumers dyno's are completely different from the dyno's that Nissan and the rest of the car companies use.

Did it on a Mustang dyno. To put your thoughts to rest, it gave me about 212-219whp. Add 5% to that (typical dynojet/mustang diff) and you get about the same...

Each dyno was 3 pulls, same weather...

Cheers.

Guys, if I remember right, dwnshift tested THREE engines at the crank on a known dyno. They all hit around 270. Realistically we have about 12-13% loss, which makes sense for a CF shaft and a decent tranny.

I go by formula: BHP = (WHP+10)/0.87

LOL, my dealer (yesterday, when I was asking if he had heard any 05 info) was trying to tell me Nissan won't bump the HP on the Z since it's already putting down 287 at the wheels! I was like WTF as he been smokin....?

This thread is about as useful as arguing motorcycle "dry weight" claims. About all they are useful for is comparing to other models by the same company, and even then... I would guess the Z might be a bit overrated and some of the other applications of our engine underrated (like the g35 sedan...), kinda the way the Vette is vs. the Camero/firebird
