Got my Z a few days ago got some questions??
I got my Z last Thursday and got some questions.
I have not driven it yet besides going around my neighborhood.
I bought the car with 7,500 miles on it. It is a black on black touring 6speed.
I have noticed that the rear tires are worn decently. There are no signs that I could find of any burn outs like rubber in the wheel well or under the car ect....
Also I noticed that the rear driver side wheel looks like its tucked more than the pass side rear. Almost like the rear driver is lowered and I took a measuring tape and its slightly off from the pass rear??
Does the clutch catch slightly high on these cars? I had a S2000 that I bought brand new and the S2000 clutch caught a lot lower than my Z If anyone who has driven these cars can give me your thoughts I would appreciate it.
O yea and the bose kinda sucks.
Besides that the car is good.
What else should I be looking for??
Any help would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks

Yea in my garaged is were I measured it and also looked closely at it on a level street.
My car was shipped form FL when it got off the truck it was really tucked from shipping I guess. Maybe its still settling?
Any other things I should look for the front tires seem fine as far as the feathering goes.
Do the rears wear early??

there is should be no reason (shipping etc) that one side lower than the other. I would have it checked out, maybe it was hit or there is a problem with the suspension (swaybar maybe). And dude, get out and drive this thing like you stole it, you will love it!
I read somewhere else on here when i did a search about the raer wheel being lower but anyways I will start driving the car tomarow and will see how it acts.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.

Damn! You've had your Z for 4 days now and only have driven it around the neighborhood and it is already broken in. What are you waiting for? If you want to know if there is anything wrong with the car then you're going to have to drive it.

Don't worry about the rear tires being worn. The OEM tires are crap! I hardly ever light my tires and I was down to the wear bars at 9,000 miles. Getting new Pilot sports this weekend, hope they last longer than the originals.
Rears being worn is a strange thing. The only explanation I see is that fronts were already replaced and that means car had a feathering issue (hopefully fixed). As to the one side lower than another... get it to the dealer.
Also, if it's 2002 car (first 6 month of production) dealer will change you the amplifier, there is a Nissan bulletin about it.

How much does the ride height differ from side to side in the rear?
Regarding the tire wear you noticed; my original tires showed some wear by 10,000 miles when I changed over to Bridgestone S-03s. Now have 30,000 and going strong.
I'd compare the clutch height with another Z and have the dealer look at it too just to make certain. I never noticed that the clutch height in my car was high--just got used to it I guess.
Most of us have had problems with: window grease, right window roll up, rear hatch not opening the first time, areas of wear on driver's seat. These are all covered by warrantee. Had mine fixed and no further problems. I have not had the tire feathering problem which most seem to have had.

Rear tire wear sounds like a previously aggressive owner, who probably did do some burn outs and such. Pretty easy to wash any rubber off to show no evidence. Could be why the clutch is releasing higher than you would imagine. Do you feel the clutch slip at all with an aggressive launch? I would do as someone else mentioned and check out a new Z to see what that clutch feels like in comparison. I know my stock tires were wearing just fine until I started taking the car to the 1/4 mile strip and they were gone in no time.
Thanks a lot for all the posts I really appreciate it.
I finally drove the car for 2 days now.
No clutch slipping
My car was built 5/03 is that the bose amp recall date??
The only thing I notice is the tire roar.
Ok now for some new questions HAHA
My tach needle bounces when I accelerate. Anyone else notice this or have this.
Does anyone think that the clutch is kind of " springy " like release really fast.
As for the rear wheel height thing the car handles Perfect go straight down the road with hands off the wheel even when braking. Dont think theres a problem there.
Theres a few more things I was wondering about but forgot I'll post later.
Thanks for the info so far.
Thank you

As for the ride height, maybe a heavy set driver owned the car and weighed down one side of the car more.
As for the Bose, there is nothing you can do about it short of gutting it out and putting in aftermarket parts.
Look for the obvious problems like tire feathering (which you probably are starting to get if you hear a tire roar already). Look for window streaks. Look to see if your window drops the normal drop when opening both doors. Check to see if your dead pedal foot rest is securely fastened (mine wasn't). Check for notchy shifting to see if your tranny is okay.
Also, one last thing, don't mind the rattles and clunks inside, that should be normal.

Does anyone have any info on the tach bounce.
One thing I have noticed on this car is that you can hear the stock intake suck air when you gas it which I have not heard on many stock cars. Is the stock intake real restrictive? That is the intake I hear right not a leak form some where? I am thinking about when I test drove one and dont think I heard that same noise.

Yea I checked the intake everything seemed fine the clips were on and everything was good.
When I hit the gas I hear what sounds to me like a intake sucking in air for a second then it stops.
If its not the intake what can be making that noise?

I don't want to alarm you TTSupra, but I would be very afraid of what the previous driver(s) did with this vehicle. It sounds like this car is in the "drive it like you stole it" catagory. I shutter to think that the break-in period was totally ignored. It will be interesting to see your experience with this car as time wears on. Typically when a car is not broken in correctly, it will show the abuse to the engine in time. You may want to only hang onto this car for a year or so and then let some unlucky buyer deal with the ill-effects. Good luck, I think you may need it.
I put 155,000 miles on an '88 300ZX NA; drove it like I stole it from day one and it never burned a drop of oil, AT was still tight, and only problems I ever had was the damn alternator never lasted more that 3 years. I was a little easier on my 350 but not much. Lots of conflicting theories on engine break-in, but I did not see anything there that would lead me to that conclusion. Just my $.02 worth.
