This is the story with me and my Fairlady.

I order I Fairlady on Sept 7, paid cash for a enthusist model,
about $29,000.00 could have gotten it cheaper but, the yen rate
wasn't stable. The dealer told me End of January or Feb.
after everything was said and done, car ordered I got a Firm date of Jan 31, 2003. I was excited so I told me girlfriend about the purchase of my car. I did not know that her boss is drinking buddies with the President of Nissan sales. Well had I told her
before I ordered the car I could have gotten a discount or a free option. Her boss talked to Nissan, this is what happened
There are 10,000 people waiting for cars here in Japan and Nissan is only putting out 1000 a month with 3 shifts 24/7 even
pulling some strings for me I might get my car in Dec for Christmas. Side note if I get my car I can sell it for a $10,000.00
profit easy. The Japanese don't like waiting either.

Default It's far and away more successful than

Nissan expected; delivery is now at least 4 months from ordering in Japan.
They're concentrating on getting out as many as possible for the USA market; quite a lot of the domestic demand is also pushed by the fact that Skyline GT-R and GT=S and the S-15 Sylvia are all dropped from production as part of Nissans local restructuring; so if you want a Sports Model you've got nowhere else to go
No Mazda RX-7 now, that leaves ONLY the Sti Impreza as a true sports model until the Mits. Evo VIII comes out in Jan 2003...

The waiting in Japan is as rodmanj describes. First preference is being given to orders in the US.

The FairladyZ is a hit in Japan beyond the wildest expectations of Nissan.

Look at my attachment... and I am getting madder by the minute. I ordered on the same day as rodmanj... and my delivery is around March.

I was originallly told February... maybe January... but the orders kept pouring in -- and then a May !!! delivery date started coming up.

I went ballistic... and the date is now around March.

rodnanj -- where do you live in Japan ?

Default Japan doesn't have any of the....

strict consumer laws the USA has, and Nissan are anxious to get those US$ at the current rate; so your Japan-side NISSAN dealer will bow and scrape and apologise and keep pushing the delivery date back 'cos he knows there ain't a damn thing you can do about it... been selling new cars here for 12 years, know all about it, been there, done that...
Ona more constructive note; the BIGGER Dealerships, esp. if they are NISSAN PRINCE Dealerships, get priority over the smaller ones.
"PRINCE" cars were once an independent company and so named because the Emperors son owned them; they were the Mercedes of Japan and the Dealerships refused to change their name when Nissan bought them out; that happened about 1963, so any of the NISSAN PRINCE Dealerships have been around for quite a while
