Default Nissan Fairlady Z Type E on the front pages of Road & Track

It's funny how they hype the car up for example

"SCOOP! The World's Most Exclusive Z-Car!"

when we all know it's just a Z with a few fancy body parts and NISMO bits.

There is also a comparison article between the RX-8 and the G35 Coupe.

I don't have it infront of me, but if it's what I think it is, it is the 2nd most exclusive Z.

The front bumper, the rear bumper, are all factory items only.

The most exclusive Nismo S-tuned GT has the same exterior items plus hand built S1 engine, NISMO guages. only 240 cars are sold per year in Japan

A buddy of mine at work had the R & T issue. This Z does have the nismo S1 engine and the article stated they "lengthened" it so they could race in a japanese league. However the race car had to be based on a production vehicle, so they made this to qualify.

As Wazowski said, it just has body parts front and rear, yet the article makes it sound like they made it special and longer.

Still only brought it up to 300 hp. Cool looking rear spoiler though.

"Nissan maintains that they can get as much as 500 bhp from the 350Z's V-6 (the company will compete in the GT500 class of the Japanese Touring Car Championship with a 500-bhp 350Z). Expect these changes in future versions of these cars; for now, though, we must make do with these first-run examples."

Are they hinting there's going to be high power NISMO 350Z in the future?

R&T sure screwed up the comparison table... I had no idea the 350Z was mid-engine / RWD. And the Nismo wheels come with stock size tires? Sloppy reporting...

I am little confused on these comments.

"Nismo has already started by offering an R-Tune version of the 350Z, but we won't get that car here until it meets federal emissions standards".

Uhh. Looks like some of you guys snuck some R-tunes over from Japan.

No, a mid-engine design would place the motor behind the seats, but in front of the rear axle. The VQ35DE in the Z sits mostly behind the front axle, but the front set of cylinders sits in front of the axle. S2000 motors are completely behind the front axle though...

Nissan refers to it as FM (front midship).

Is this direct quote from R&T??? if it is, that proves one more time that R&T screwed up again.

1.) The JGTC GT500 class 500hp 350Z used VQ30DETT, which is a turbo engine.
2.) People are expecting this engine will be end up in the up coming GTR, not in the Z.
3.) this is not really a news, many people who pay attention to GTR news and Nissan news knows about this.

R&T should hired someone who works for Sport Compact Cars magazine or someone who really knows about Import to write article.

I saw the article today, it is the most exclusive Z, NISMO S-tune GT

Only sold in japan and made only 20 a month, to celebrate 20th anniversary of NISMO. It has exclusive exterior parts, S1 engine (VQ35 with lots of goodies), NISMO s-tune suspenshion, Brembo F50 brakes, Nismo wheels, NISMO gauge, NISMO sports seats, light weight flywheel/clutch cover/ clutch disk/clutch hose, Nismo adjustable rear spoiler, stainless exhaust

S1 Engine upgraded
-ECM
-Camshaft
-VTC body
-Valve springs
-control bolt
-inlet pipe and airflow meter
-carbon fiber funnel
-iridium plugs
-carbon engine fire
-engine oil cooler
-power steering cooler

For $60k, the price reflects that amount of parts that went into it but is it worth it's price? It's not really for me but it's worth it for racing teams and NISMO collectors

Its completely different.

The new intake is a replacement tube (with venturi) and *i think* a replacement rear section of the stock airbox. A much better design. It really is nothing like the us Nismo / AEM CAI.

Dont forget that all the Japanese Auto Manufactures have a "Gentlemen's Agreement" that they wont make a car with over 300 hp, that is why you see the Skyline and other JDM cars listed with less than 300hp when you know they are making more..

Also, Road&Track is notoriously conservative with their 0-60 testing. When you see the same car tested by another magazine they are always at least .5 second or more slower.

That agreement was recently dropped, it's big news man, where have u been. =)

6/10 Japan,
Japan Automobile Manufactures Association (JAIA) concluded that the industry's voluntary regulation of horsepower to 280hp applied to Japanese vehicles will be terminated.
