I didn't have a problem with it, it just seemed off topic, that's all....Like I said, not at all intended as a flame.

Actually, now I see what you were doing. You responded to the thread title rather than the body. My bad. Still a good post, and good to see the young guys working hard for what they want! Peace.

I bought my 350Z when I was 20,

I started out with a 280ZXT, bought a 95 Civic DX later that same year for a daily driver, 2 years later put about 20Gs into it then traded that car for a loaded Audi and 4500cash. Then I traded the Audi in on my 350Z all said and done I paid 18K for the 350Z that is $350 a month for SIX years however, I will pay it off in 2 or so years.

Insurance is $224 a month, that is full coverage with a $100 deductable and full coverage on my Honda CBR with a $200 deductable. Everything is 100% in my name.

BTW Perfect driving record.

How is it a 20 year can be on his 4th car "2 of them being over 20K worth" and also on my 3rd street bike?

I've worked full time since I was 16years old and I'm always single!

Would I do things the same way if I could redo it? HELL NO!!!!!! I would have busted my *** in school then would have went to college early.

Then at this point in my life I could start out in a kick *** career rather then doing what I'm doing now.

working full time and CATCHING up on all the school I've missed out on.

Just remember owning a 350Z sucks when you don't own a house with a garage and they don't come cheap=) save for a house! unless you're lucky like me and rent from a place that has a garage

I'm a 22 year old Long Islander also from Hicksville, New York and I have 2 speeding tickets and a reckless driving ticket in New Jersey which thankfully doesn't carry over to my new york license. I go to Stony Brook University Full time and major in mechanical engineering. I also work Full-time and have a girlfriend. I bought my z for 28800 a month and a half sgo and that includes tax, title license and everything and even a 6 year 72000 mile warranty. I bought my car used and it is a chrome silver 2003 performance coupe with every option on it except for side airbags it also had 2600 miles. In my opinion it wasn't a hard decision. The way I afforded the car is by saving up $9,650 and by the grace of god getting my parents to match what i saved up, the rest was taken out on a loan under my moms name with 2.99% so my payments are 179 a month for the loan and insurance is 2400 a year. Basically I'm very fortunate to be able to drive this car and I count my blessing everyday.

Throwdest,
Here is a pretty good tool to help determine how much you can expect to pay each month depending on how much you put down, the interest rate or how much you will need to finance to maintain your current monthly payments. Hope it helps.

The answer: Let your parents pay your insurance.

I'm 21. I've had my Z for 3 months now. I am a sergeant in the Army Reserves but I'm on active duty for a year. Back home I'm a Surgical Tech and part time sales rep. I saved up until i could afford to give 9K down. The only thing that sucks is that while I still live with my parents until I find a place I pay the Insurance on all the cars in my house, 4 cars, BMW, Ram, Ranger, and my Z. It's my rent if you will. It comes out to $510 a month, and my I pay $450 for the Z. It hurts but everytime I jump into my car I'm so happy it's worth it. I have state farm for insurance, it's a little steep but I've heard horror stories about other insurance companies making impossible when you have an accident. I like the piece of mind from state farm.

I just turned 22 this June and have the policy under my own name. Z is my first and the only car. I have 2 tickets, and I pay $2900 a year. ($1450 per 6 month)
Do yourself a favor and get a Valentine V1. It costs you now $400, but it'll save you a lot more in the long run.
Of course, chill out and don't drive like a maniac in town.

got my ss enthusiast beginning of january. i'm 23 and put 8 grand down. I don't make a lot, but living at home saves you money...but now i have to start paying rent at home. so money's getting tight. Unexpected things always happen so you should have money saved for a rainy day. btw, 21st century....$1900 a year in socal for my Z and my '91 max (beater). w/o my beater insurance would be about $2600. so my advice, buy a cheap beater and say that's your commuter car. it'll save you money in the long run.

I don't know what the insurance will run on me and the wife for a 350z, waiting for the 35th in yellow. I pay about $319 every 6 mths on my 93' Z32 vert w/$1000 deductable,$289 on my 95'240sx, and $289 on my 2000 Z71 P/U. Same terms full coverage w/$1000 deductable. When I get a 350z it will be insured the same. Plan on putting $18k down w/no trade. Also I'm almost 51 years old and clean record.

21 and had the Z for about 6 months. All I can tell you is that if you get this car (even for only 20K) you should find a different job, a second job, or start putting in overtime. None of it will be worth it though. I bought a nice car when I was 19 and ended up having problems with my parents, moving out of my house and having to deal with EVERYTHING on my own. I got a second job and worked 75 hours every week for two years. My grades dropped at OU and I had to drop out just to pay the bills. It has now been 3 semesters since I quit school. I own a Z and love it, but I still work 55 hours a week at 1 job to make the $500 payment and $140 insurance every month. I am finally starting back this August to school but have lost a lot of valuable time over a vehicle of all things. I know it doesn't carry a lot of weight, but heed this advice. Don't live to your means, and certainly don't live beyond them. You will regret it and it will cause you more harm than good. Wait until you finish school or get a really good career job before diving into a purchase of this magnitude. I know parents and elders will all give you a similar speech, as they did me. This one is from a peer though, not an elder and I do hope you really think it through. Jarrod

P.S. The car isn't much fun if you don't ever have time to go anywhere in it or money to do anything to it.

My insurance was also $4,200 (well, $4,272 ) a year for full coverage, 19 years old, clean record ( not anymore ). BTW, I bought my Z, and I paid insurance, gas, and all of my mods by myself.

Gas was almost costing me as much as insurance!

Why am I speaking in past tense? I just decided it was not smart to have the car anymore. I have got a few tickets now that will be on my record in due time, and insurancewould just be to much. Not to mention a Legend + $20,000 in the bank just takes a lot of stress off of my shoulders, cops don't look at me anymore, and I just had bad luck with my Z.

How can a twenty year old afford a 350Z?

If by that question you mean TOTALLY and COMPLETELY on their own and not receiving any cash gift or other aid from family such as insurance, housing, food and all the other necessities required for a a person to be truly on their own, then I would say it is damn near impossible unless you win the lotto or receive a large inheritence.

If there is a twenty year old out there who meets the requirements I listed above then congratulations to you for your success. You certainly are a remarkable young person. Any other 20 yr olds who own Z's congrats to you to for having the good fortune to be connected to generous parents or other benefactors.
