Well, my dealer called me yesterday afternoon. He said he got the bank to accept the rate on the contract. (This is the same bank that wanted 5.6x%, not NMAC.) He mentioned something about working the numbers. Don't remember exactly how and don't really care. All that matters is that it's been resolved. All it took on my part was a firm letter and I'm glad.
I was really hoping that it would end up this way and just wanted all of your opinions on the matter and to know what my options were. I learned a lot. Thanks everyone for all your input.
I PM'd Tony about our little "debate" and I think we came to an understanding. Here's excerpts from my PM:
"I just reread the thread that we've been posting to. I really didn't mean to come across as a ***** and for it to get out of hand. I hope there's no hard feelings between us. I don't mean to be stereotyping all dealers. I tried to keep my comments to my dealer, but ended up generalizing and accusing near the end. I hope you understand that I'm just pissed at what's happening to me. (I know, I know, it's only $5/month.) My family's had problems with other dealers before. It does look like you are trying to help me."
"And I don't mean to act like a "know-it-all." I just have a tendency to want to debate people. Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not always right, but if I don't argue a point, how will I know if I'm really wrong?
"
One reason why I haven't mentioned who my dealer is is that, while I may feel that my dealer may be lying to me, in reality, there's no way for me to truly know one way or the other.
On another note, I was stopped for the first time in my Z by a cop the other night. It was 2am and we were stopped at a light facing each other. He sees that I have no front plate. I pass him. He sees that I have no back plate and no dealer placard. He busts a u-turn. In my 12 years of driving, whenever I see a cop do a u-turn in my rear view mirror, 99.999% of the time, it's to pull me over.
Well, I was 2 blocks from my house and, by the time he catches up to me, my garage door is going up. He shines his light directly in my eyes and I can't see him. (I should've put on my sunglasses. lol) If I didn't already know that a cop was behind me, I would've been scared as hell not knowing who that person was! Well, he asks me if it's my car and why I don't have any plates. I told him that it's a new car and I only had it 2 weeks. Didn't he see that big, fugly sticker my dealer put on my windshield?? (If I was driving my Accord, this would've never happened.)
DISCLAIMER: In no way am I stating that all cops are jerks or even that this guy was a jerk!

glad it worked out for you.....my guess why he used a outside bank is he was holding a point in rate and finally gave up the point to get your rate.....
just an educated guess though....
i thought originally they were taking you through nmac?

To tonylittle:
Show me a car salesman that offers:
1) No more 15 minutes to make the deal
2) Never see the inside of a dealership
3) Delivers the car to ones front door
4) Gets better than a "street deal" in the local market.

hummm i did those things im alot of instances
as far as stepping inside a dealership?well
you would have to be not real bright to not look at and drive a car before you spent 30+k on it......
but to each his own
i like the haggle and threatening and dragging it out and screwing with the salesman

I was disappointed on my Z purchase. I was armed for a fight and the dealer rolled over.
I went in assuming I wasn’t going to get much, if any, under MSRP. (This was last summer.) So I offered $1,250 under MSRP, the actually sticker, NO dealer add-ons. I thought it was a good starting point, I’d be happy if I could get it for anything UNDER MSRP. So I make the offer, the salesman takes it to the GM, yada, yada, yada…The salesman comes back after about 2 minutes and says the GM says OK. I’m in shock. (Not to mentioned upset with myself for making my initial offer so HIGH.)
In 25 years of buying cars it was my easiest purchase. Even though I was initially upset after I realized I could have got it even cheaper, I was still okay with it. I was willing to pay full MSRP and it would have been worth every penny.
Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the thread.
If you enjoy the process, I understand. In my biz I negociate/haggle/etc with attorneys, contractors, and a wide variety of city/state/federal officials on a daily basis; so "recreation" haggling with cardealer dipsticks holds no thrill.
I simply want the car I want at a fair price with minimal hassle.
Please note, I said the "inside" of a dealership; of course I visit lots to evaluate & drive cars of interest.

I'm not one who likes to hassle with negotiations (of any sort). I originally wanted to buy the car through AAA's car buying service (My family bought 2 Hondas that way.), but the Nissan dealer who works with AAA in my area didn't seem interested in selling me a Z (He still hasn't called me to follow up after a month.), so I just went to the dealer that had the car that I wanted.
tonylittell: Yeah, it was originally NMAC. That reminds me. I have to call my insurance company to change the lienholder!
Unison8: Check your PM.
