Default Z concept car

I remember seeing the 350z concept car at the 2002 (I think it was 2002) Detroit Auto Show. I remember looking at it and I wasn't too crazy about it...man did that change...less than 2 years later I became a Z nut....Anyone else have a similar experience when first seeing the concept at an auto show?

Also anybody have a pic of the concept (I lost the one took at the show)?

I almost find that I don't like concept on new cars at first. Then again it depends on the car. Only because most concept cars look a lot cooler than the real finish car.

I remember when Nissan was first talking about the Z car in 2000 they were talking maybe a 4 cyclinder and around 25K to compare to a Eclipes, RSX, and Celica area, but as you can see that didn't happen thank god. I think 350Z is kind of in a class by itself.

Before I had a Z, I actually hated them. I test drove one for the first time though and that all turned completely around

I thought the concept looked alright, but I think the production version looks a little better.

You know I didn't like the look of the Z too much when it first came out, I was going to get a G35 coupe. After joining this forum, reading and reserching the Z, I fell in love with. Now, I don't really like the look of the G35 anymore, crazy how that works.

When I saw the concept version, the first thing that crossed my mind was the price and above my price bracket. What a surprize when they came out with the production model. It is in a class
of it's own! ZRA.

supercars.net has the 1999 concept and the 2001 concept. 1999 is fugly and the 2001 only looks a little bit different, i agree though, the minor changes made after the concept made a big difference

I never looked at the Z when it first came out (although I saw a LeMans one and really liked the look). I was only looking at Audi S4s and Toyota Supras at the time and my brother suggested I go look at the new Z (I couldn't find a low milage enough S4 or Supra so I kind of gave up).

Well, once I saw the Z up close and sat in it (didn't even turn the car on), I knew I had to have one. Once I test drove it, I was 110% sure this was the car. I've never regretted the purchase

I love my car but I wish that the exhaust would have kept the oblong-ish outlets. I thought that they were pretty unique.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this comment. I'm glad that they scrapped the exhaust in the center of the bumper's bottom.

It would never have passed production because the heat the exhaust is produces would ruin the bumper.

Forget about aftermarket exhaust system because you would have to use the existing outlets. Let's face it, people buy it and many change to be unique in his/her own likings. If that was how it is now, engineering, designing and selling exhaust systems would be really REALLY low on the Zs

Exhaust outlets are unique to most cars out there. Manufacurers would produce whatever is needed for that particular car. How many aftermarket exaust systems are there for the Boxter/Boxter S, Mini Cooper S, or the Corvette, all which have exhaust outlets in the middle of the bumber. I just think that it would have added a little more uniqueness to the car.

Having the exhaust in the middle is fine. I've seen many cars with that. I was referring to the exhaust tip being on the rear bumper like the concept 2001.

It was a dumb idea that would not only cause heat fractures to the bumper, it would also vibrate in time and it would be hard to get aftermarket exhaust to stand out from the car (unless you bought a new bumper).
