You guys sound rediculous. Some colors show orange peel more than others. But all cars have it.

Do you know what orange peel occurs from? It's from the nossels not disitributing the paint evenly, and the bond between the paint and the primer.

There is no car produced today that doesn't have it. Unless it is an exotic. Or they take some serious time painting it. Hence not on a high production car.

Only other way to fix it is wet sanding in between paint coats before the clear coat. Ask anyone who paints cars for a living!

If you really want to complain go yell at the tree huggers that made all of our paint jobs bad.

BLACK CARS SHOW FLAWS THE WORST! lol, where has everyone been ?!?!?

well said...i think everyones getting out of hand with this topic

Could someone attach a pic of the orange peel on their Z?

(In case anyone cares, my 2000 MR2 has a flawless paint job
as far as I can tell. I'm hoping my Z will have at least as good
of a paint job.)

Well, OK, I went and took a few (30) pictures... I'm making a webpage now. I'll post in a little bit.

I must say Nissan has the worst paint jobs! Look at the Sentra pics :-P yuck-o!

Cadillac, Mercedes and BMW had the best.

NOW, when looking at these pics, look at the sharp details. Follow lines in the reflection, and look for *bumps* and distortion in the reflection.

My car came with a paint defect on the left front fender. When I got it back you can see that the paint the repair shop put on had a much smoother finish than the rest of the car. That being said it is still very hard to notice it on the chrome silver. If you are worried about a little oarnge peel, spend a couple of grand and get your car repainted so you can sleep at night. I would rather put that money into some mods that will make my driving experience better.

Here ya go...

Remeber look at the distortion in the reflection. And especilly on sharp lines in the reflection. Try and see details in the refelcted image. The worse the orange peel, the less you'll be able to see.

Whomever owned the BLACK BMW, and the Mitsubishi Monteto, I suggest you go take another look.

I have pics of both vehicles in here

Look at the Nissan Sentra to start with, OMG is it BAD!

Remember the refelcted image should be like a mirror! not all bumpy! (bumps=orange peel)

Thumbs up Orange peel

Well after reading the threads on orange peel I decided to go to my garage and give my cars the test.
First I will name my cars models and manufacturers.
Audi A6 4.2 Silver 2001
BMW M3 Silver 1997
Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 3.0 Black 2001
GMC Envoy 2002 Pewter 2002
Porsche 911 Turbo Blaupunt blue 1980
Nissan 350Z Silverstone 2003
Guess what? I looked at all of them in great detail. I am a very particular person about the look of my cars. The best paint job I ever had was on two Lexus I had a 400 sedan black and a SC400 in a similar color that my new Z, their paint was impecable.
But back to the question, all my cars have a certain degree of orange peel, the Z rates as superior in comparison to the others.
All my cars' pait is in excellent condtion and PS21 is my wax of choice. My son is a pro at detailing and concurs with me.
So go easy on Nissan, they came up with an excellent car, the performance, looks and design are superior. Not to mention the price is fairly reasonable. I agree that orange peel probably will show more in darker colors. But I will stick with my choice since I am extremely please with my new Z.
By the way I do not work for Nissan nr they paid me for my comments.

MAYBE, there's something about the painting process that I don't understand but if GM can paint its cars wiithout the problem why can't Nissan?

Tom
I was checking out GM's cadillac CTS, they all had orange peel even on the top surfaces of the hood, top, trunk. This was worst than the orange peel I seen on nissans. If you can get a Z with only small amounts of orange peel on the verticle surfaces then consider yourself lucky.

If it bothers you that much then in a couple of years you can always get it leveled out and clearcoat it.
I agree with you not accepting something with a obnoxiously
large amount of it. I was ready to get a S2000 if mine came in that way.

I have a DB and you have to work to find it but it's there. It's there on all of them some people just don't know what there looking for.

Wink Orange peel pix

SIGGy:

Nice pix. I guess what I was so agitated about was that while I have seen orange peel before, the black 350Z was probably the worst I have ever seen. That seems absurd to me. Such a beautiful car flawed, admittedly like so other brands, by a horrendous case of orange peel. Hopefully, it's the exception rather than the rule. I could stand some orange peel just not a whole lot.

BTW, where's the picture of the Z or are they still so rare you couldn't find one to photograph?

thanks!

Ya, I went back to the grocery store on the way to the dealership(s). And it was gone Track model too. LOL, i have pics of a new 7 series BMW, Porsche 911, and Viper GTS. But no Z!!!! bah!

If you feel bad about the Z, take a look at that Nissan Sentra I took pics of!

Let me know if you feel your car is just as bad... I will admit nissan had the worst paint jobs when comparing orange peel. Suck-o I love the new Z. Guess everything has it flaws...

I guess I now agree with everyone else that it's no big deal. I am assuming that everyone's paint job on their Z looks the same as the Sentra, correct? I guess Nissan just doesn't know what they're doing when it comes to painting. I still may take it to the dealer and have them look at it anyway. Thanks for the pictures.

Interesting: in those pictures, next to the really bad orange peel on the Sentra, the second worst seemed to be the Porsche 911!

The picture of the Ford F150 looks like it was taken by Salvador Dali.

Back to one of the original posts in this thread. I saw a CS touring that had just been delivered to a dealership, it had really bad orange peel. My Le Mans is very minor compared to what I saw on the silver. So I don't want you to think that by going lighter (CS) you will be able to avoid it.

I have no complaints about my paint job.
