Got to 143 MPH today in my 5AT!
#22
That's odd. I had my 5AT at 120 today and it just did not feel like there was much left in it. Right at 120 it just turned into a dog. I prolly could of got 140 if I had another five minutes of clear road.

I just took it up to 130 the other day with my wife in the car. We went for a drive up to Mount Raineer. We found a long strait stretch. I couldn't beleive how stable the car felt at that speed. It instilled a lot of confidence in the Z.

Sorry if this is off topic(mine is manual).
My '04 bone stock base with the aero kit has no problems getting to top speed. It's very stable too. I don't know about everyone else, but my car is electronically limited. When I hit 159 (on both speedos), the car just stops accelerating. I can tell that the car has more speed left from simply the way it reaches 159. It accelerates nicely right up to 159 and then stops accelerating. Another way I know it's elec. limited, is from keeping it pegged at 159 for almost a minute. I went up and down a hill during an episode and neither speedo budged 1mph either way. If it were drag limited, or unlimited, I would have either lost speed going up the hill or gained some going down, but neither happened. Speed stayed constant the entire time.
Wrong.
The speedos aren't off as much as you assume. 159 on the speedo is much closer to the 156 that nissan claims(as opposed to 143). By design, the speedos MUST read higher than actual speed for legal reasons, but our speedos aren't off by 16 mph at top speed. I guarantee that.
That's hilarious. Take your car back and tell them you want a refund.

Seriously though, unless you have a gps running, it's almost useless to look at your speedometer. I would say that if your speedo says 150, you're more than likely doing no more than 135, maybe 140. Generally speedos are off about 8-10% well into triple digits

I have an idea.... Since alot of people keep saying that the speedo is inacurate at high speeds then maybe one of us should volunteer to do 158 or so until a police officer scans one of us... Im sure he will let us know exactly how fast we were going and then we will know how far off the speedo is. ANY VOLUNTEERS???

That's the biggest load of **** I have heard yet in regards to speedos being off. Unless Nissan builds their cars unlike any other that I have ever driven, then their speedo is going to be off about 8-10%. Do these legal reasons not apply to other car manufactuers, or bike manufactuers?

If you ever got caught going that speed it's an instant license suspension along with losing your car. Be careful man. Some cops are just itching to pull someone over. Trust me I know. I've had nothing but bad experiences with the police while driving. Most of it because of profiling ********.

I got up to about 86 this morning in my F250 turbo diesel on the way to work and that thing was shaking and blowing around like a fart in the wind In the Z, i dont think i've gotten past about 105. Dont' want to get a ticket and lose the car.

80 is slow for me, Its soo hard to keep it under 90. Damm this 6 speed and all this HP. Thank you cruise control... Its the only thing that saves me!
HOwever I agree with the bike statement. my 600cc pulls harder.. However thiers also a 3000lb weight diference

Just a friendly reminder....a few members in the past were doing like 100+...and didn't survive, including a magazine editor who couldn't make a turn and fell of cliff somewhere in summer of 2002.
I myself had a serious accident at 70mph putting me in the hospital for a knee injury I recently had surgury for and would have not made it had the car not rotated a full 360 degrees prior to primary impact.
Now I drive like a baby. Before the accident though, I would always go 100 or so on my way home on the sawgrass express way (in south florida) for about 40 min...but later cruise control was too convenient for the commute so it kept me at the Cruise control limit of (91mph)...
drive safely. I remember telling my girlfriend that speeding was something irrestable in this car...and it still is...and I promissed myself and her if I couldn't control myself I would simply rid of it later.
For now, I am cruising happy again in 2005. Two months without my Z was horrendous withdrawl symtoms.

Nice shot JimH... The Z is stable at high speeds when its going straight but like if youre doing a lil bit of turns 100+, then the car sometimes sway side to side pretty easily. Thats why I think my next mod will be springs. Maybe Tanabe GF210

5AT speed
Big difference when I went to the Eibachs and a drop of 1" all around realized. Totally different performance envelope, especially at high speed. Regards, Jim
